creepworm
Anyone else watching this? Kind of eye opening to see how the Stillwater Lift Bridge looks underneath. This should speed up the process to get a new bridge built.

CAMAN
It won't speed up the bridge building process at all, it may speed up the bridge closing process though. Local news stations have done a few stories on what the bridge looks like underneath and it never sped anything up. I don't see how a national show will now change the opinions of the ones blocking it from being built.
mrklean
we have no money to fix half the problem roads bridges anything in the country so i dont see the show as a jump starter.

Wanderer
we have no money to fix half the problem roads bridges anything in the country so i dont see the show as a jump starter. Exactly.I saw the show too and only saw a guy getting the worry warts going. Sure he pointed out issues that need to be taken care of but it's not like the people who are hired to deal with it don't know what's going on already.I saw him pointing out big problems that will take time and money to be corrected - and that was all his dramatic conclusion was in the end. It's the same anywhere; you look close enough at anything and you'll find fault. I was waiting to hear some sound conclusions or new ideas for remedies. Disappointed. Not a hater, just underimpressed.
CAMAN
I got a kick out of how he kept chipping away at the concrete bridge piling, he must have removed 4 or 5 inches before the mayor finally stopped him. I have a feeling he might have chipped the entire piling away to where it finally collapsed if no one was around to stop him.

jentz
Back in the day 60s 70s, right up to stillwater wanting to claim the river as wild scenic, Then getting it.when Stillwater was offered new bridges many times. They refused saying it would ruin the quaintness of such a historic town and increase outsiders using the area as a drive through destination. They got just what they asked for, lots a $$$ there. Now they dont want it! Cant have it wild and scenic as they [voted] on then change their minds. They wanted a quaint little village all to them selves NO outsiders or traffic. I personally hope they get what was voted on and passed.Next thing all scenic designated areas will have a precedent under a overruling of allowing a bridge.Tough luck!! The wild and scenic is also protecting shorelines that the owners wanted to protect their property the scenic to protect their views and some hard core laws prohibiting any outsiders camping on the islands. They got what they wanted!!!! prohibiting the general public from using the river in their views.
