As the other folks said, yes, you need one. If you plan on buying a license every year, do yourself a favor, get the lifetime license at some point. It's more expensive compared to the individual license, but it's also the most valuable for you now since you are young. You'll save a lot of money in the long run.

Unless of course you move to another state due to your career or whatever. Then the license is worthless, right?

no it is always good doesn't matter where you move to......

Now that would have saved my buddy that grew up in MN a bunch of money as he works lives in Fargo ND but hunts and fishes Minnesota and spends lots of cash on non-res license. Interesting and a good thought for young poeple before college, carrers or other intrests take them across the country as you will always come home to hunt and fish.
