mabr
Got a question for you heating experts. Ive got a customer who is heating whole house (50's ara) by boiler supplied radiators. We're gutting the bathroom and will need to remove the radiator for the tile work. The idea of maybe installing in floor heat and removing the radiators was brought up so I'm looking into options. Ive used in floor (electric)on many occasions BUT it was always as a convenience so the tile floor felt good on the feet and it did keep the room somewhat warmer. In all cases they also had forced air heat in the area as well. My concern is if we were to put it in would it be enough to heat the room comfortably as a stand alone system. Were "considering" both electric and water system. We will be reinstalling R13 in walls with nothing being done to the attic above. My concern is it might not be sufficient. Any opinions or recommendations?
PurpleFloyd
I have seen it done in basement slabs and also under the first floor joists and it was enough in a 1 story to heat the house comfortably. It depends on the climate and the unit that is installed.

mabr
Well there is no HVAC contractor, just plumber. He thinks we would be fine with the water but we would have to zone all rooms to do this which is making it unafordable 3-4K range. I think we decided were going to use both radiator and electric infloor today.
Archerysniper
When ever you use in floor in a bathroom make sure to keep it far enough away from the toilet flange so you dont melt the wax toilet gasket. If it was me I would just reinstall the radiator for heating one room.
