I will be hunting either the 2nd season or one of the last 2 seasons....either way with bow. I am helping guide for the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) hunt again this year and it just so happens it is the week that I pulled for hunting. The DAV hunt is a great deal!

What are we thinking for names?

Beard Busters

Strut Stoppers

Blind Hogs

Spur-Fect

bmc reporting for duty guys!

I'll be bowhunting in Wadena County May 3-7. My dad and I hunted here last year, same time frame, and had a great time. My dad got his 1st turkey, a nice 17 lb jake.

I've got a score to settle on a boss tom that I took a couple of feathers off of last spring. He was probably 20-25 lbs w/ a 10" or longer beard. I hope he's still there waiting for me.

I like Spur-fect for a team name or Gobbler Guru's.

Brain_melt where are you?

Any of you guys been out snooping around??? My area is 2 hrs away, so I won't get a chance to get down there until my season starts.

I was in the Citites last weekend and saw a boss tom, some jakes, and hens along the Hwy 10/61 near Cottage Grove. That got the blood boiling!!!!

I was out this morning looking around. Foggy and misting at gobbling time but did hear one gobble. Saw a couple of hens and heard a couple. Pretty sparse sign actually. I will be taking my son-in-law out starting Thursday afternoon. It will be his first time. I hope the weather is half way decent.

I PM'ed him but never heard back from him.

I have been driving around my area but not much for action out in the fields. It hasn't been till about 9 though so that might be part of the problem. Depending on the weather I will be hunting. If it doesn't look good I will buy a tag for one of the last 2 seasons. I am taking a kid out this weekend in the mornings tho so I will be able to get some scouting in then as well. Good Luck all!

Well we are on the board. Shot a little over twenty pound two year old hybrid out in Nebraska Monday afternoon. 9" beard and .75" and .625" spurs. Certainly not a monster but I'll take him considering the weather conditions which were for the most part were terrible. I'll get the pics and stats up soon if the wife can remeber how to do it.

Heading out in the morning.Sounds like the weather should be ok. I've been out scouting all day, I have one spot with a tom and a hen. And 1 spot with a tom and 2 hens, Across the road there are 4 toms,2 jakes and 3 hens. They were out all day strutting. Hopefully they feel like crossing. Hope it goes well

Well guys I let you all down....no bird for me this year. Between the late spring and this early season tag I couldn't get it done. Never even saw a bird Thursday or Friday...thats BAD!

On a better note I took a kid out last Saturday and he got a nice Jake for his first bird. He was a happy camper that is for sure.

Also was on the DAV hunt at Camp Ripley this week and the guy my dad and I were partnered with shot his Tom at 40yds at about 12:30. One of VERY few that wasn't with hens. On Monday when I get the pictures back I will post them all up.

I had alot of fun this last week tho that is for sure! Good Luck to the rest of you!

Pretty quiet for me so far. I had a tom with a hen on saturday,he was following her every move. She brought him to about 80yds,then they headed away.Only saw one hen today,no gobbling anywhere. She came up to the decoy 3 times and went into full strut every time.Went out scouting tonight found a place with 4 toms out in the field strutting and was able to gain permission. My son hunter is going to tag along so hopefully some of his luck will rub off on me.

Looking forward to your update mws4dux.

At least you tried Ryan! Don't worry that big boy I missed last spring is still in the same area and had 4 ladies w/ him the other day. Maybe he'll weigh enough for 2 birds and a 16" beard?

I wonder if he knows that he had his last Easter meal today? grin

1st week of May can't get here quick enough!!!

The morning spot didn't pan out, We heard 70+ gobbles on the roost between those 4 toms. After fly down didn't hear a peep. We sat till 1030 without seeing a turkey.Tonight went back to the spot I hunted the first day and saw that tom.I've been watching these birds the last 5 nights. They would to the same thing every night. So my plan was to sneak to the corner of the woods were they come into roost. I was not going to call and no decoys.I get there and the birds are were their supposed to be.I settle in for the long wait. They slowly feed my way but are shifting to my left,so I decide to belly crawl through mud and a nice pricker bush thicket. I close about 40 yds the tom and 1 hen are still headed to my left now out of sight but the other hen is walking right at me i'm done moving and decide to do some soft yelps the hen in front of me erupts yelping, clucking, cutting.I mimic her every sound this fires up the tom who starts to head towards me now.The hen is now 10 yds away as I hug some deadfall.I see the tom on the wood edge,he is gobbling every 15 to 20 seconds now. Thinking he might follow the hen my heart started to race.He stayed out there strutting his stuff, he was roughly 45yds out thought about shooting but just a little too much brush. He walked off, dang didn't want go out in the morning with the weather that is predicted.Oh well got love it.

Well I got him.Got up today @ 4:00 and it was raining pretty hard and a little wind to boot.Thought about crawling back into bed, glad I didn't.After watching this bird for the last week and coming close last night,I figured I set up in the best spot. Now i was just hoping he and the hens would come to the same field. He gobbled once on the roost that was it.I just sat in the blind waiting, looking down the field edge left and right. At about 630 I see his white head heading towards the decoy.A hen is leading the way,she walks by the deke and he is following about 20 yds behind in full strut. He gets directly in front of the blind in full strut and stares right at me.He turns and I shoulder my gun,he must of noticed my movement as he started to hightail it out of there.BOOM tom flopping on the ground.Got him at 9 steps.did some rough measurements close to 25# wet around inch spurs and roughly a 7" beard.Like I said rough it was pouring.Got him at 6:36.I will post some pics and get some good measurements. P.S is there a good way to take pics of a wet bird. LOL
