Why you shouldn't visit internet shops late at night when you're tired

I bought a HatCam hat. Yup. At 3AM it seemed like the perfect solution to my desire for a hands-free way to record video of my bassin' adventures.

In the light of day (and after some sleep) I realize how DORKY I'm going to look (what's new, right?), but nerd-factor aside, I am actually pretty excited to put it to use. Should be cool for capturing blow-ups while topwater fishing.

Anyone ever used one?

The HatCam is actually a hat - like a baseball cap - with a mount for a lightweight video camera built into the bill of the cap grin

I plan to use it with my Kodak Pro Sport HD cam. Basically, you just screw the camera onto the mount on your cap, and wherever you're looking, that's what you record! The video could get a little choppy if I'm forced to unleash a ferocious hookset, but I'm sure I can get than hang of it after awhile.

lol well i actually made my own hat cam with a strike king hat, yes i look super dorky and nerdy ppl walk by like wat the heck is that nerd doing? until i land some nice bass they never knew were in the water.

the ppl who dont fish for real have no idea what they are talking about they can act like the jock in school but in the end your just a better fishermen than the person is and that just makes them more jelous that you have footage of yourself landing fish. go out with it a few times and the locals who fish will soon also have them, be the spark that ignites the fire start the new trend of hatcam fishing!

I use a Hatcam and you can see several videos here on the site shot with it. I have a Flip mounted on mine. I am happy with the results and it will take a little getting used to. The weight of the camera on your head and learning to turn your head to look not just your eyes as the camera will not catch that. I have added a wide angle lens to my Flip for this season so I am looking forward to a wider picture. You will find that the closer the action is that you shoot that you need to actually put your chin on your chest and hold your fish up so it will get caught in the angle of the camera. I am hoping the wide angle lens will help with that problem. I give it a big thumbs up and even if you don't post any video to share it is great to have at home to look over your fishing trips!

I think someone needs to come up with a camera a little more low profile, that mounts below the bill, like those LED lights, less dorky, closer to eyes & line of site

Sounds like a great way for you to jump into the 5% of people that everyone hates. Invent it. I'll buy one.

Got me thinking of some video I shot with a tripod setup on the back deck, think its more useful then the POV, what do you think?

Each has it's advantages, but I think a combination of the two would be the best from the viewers perspective. That way you get the whole picture.

With the POV, you get to see the type of cover, more of the presentation and lure action, and (perhaps) most importantly, you get to see that bass blow up on that buzzer. grin

With the camera on the back deck, you get to see how the angler works the bait with the rod, which is something you don't really see with POV cameras.

If someone has the resources, why not do both? Of course, having an incredibly tolerant buddy tape you would probably be easier than all of the above.
