What were these?

Recommended Posts

I went to a game farm on Saturday and when I was cleaning the roosters I found two bean shaped organs up in the chest cavity. They were off white and about the size of the end of your thumb. I've never noticed these before and all 4 roosters had them. I was wondering if they were testicles and if they were developing sperm for the breeding season.

Anyone else ever seen these? Do they get smaller later in the year or what?

I am not positive but I believe they were testicles. We used to raise chickens, turkeys, ducks and geese on a farm when I was a kid. We'd buthcer them ourselves and clean thm. I was pluckling and gutting birds by age 6 or 7. Pretty saure I saw more of those than anyone every should Probably threw a few at my brothers.

I was a guest and following the lead of the member. There didn't seem to be anyone interested in cleaning birds. There was a huge plywood bin full of undressed birds and I wondered how long they'd been sitting around since we were early guests and there's no way that many birds had been taken that day.

Probably a good call! Which place was it. might not be a bad idea to right a review so people aren't getting two day old birds soaked in the sun!

Whenever I go to a game farm I always clean my own birds. They all offer to do it for you but what they do is trade you your birds for some that have been shot prior. No Thanks. I would rather go thru the work and clean the birds that I shot. That way, I know what I am getting.

you should have taken the nuts out of all those dead birds so you had enough for a meal.

i'm not up to speed on exactly how a game farm works, but why wouldn't people leave with their bird rather than have them pile up in a bin for days? That sounds weird and uhh, not right.

Typically the way they work is you shoot birds they count em and run down to their freezer and grab you the packaged already cleaned birds. Horse and hunt asks you how you want them. For instance do you want frozen or smoked. I am sure you could always ask for ur birds back. But after a few i shot when i was at a game farm ud be better off with just the head lol. I always forget to let the birds fly away before shooting them. frown several were disinigrated frown

The game farm I frequent is just north of Beju MN (McCullum's Game farm). They are a top notch place. We always get out birds back. I will sometimes go watch them clean them. Wow it is amazing how fast they are! Of course the do charge 2 bucks to clean them.
