Lifetime Licenses

Recommended Posts

My Grandpa loved to fish. When he passed away he left me alittle money. I used that money to buy my 3 kids the lifetime license. If my kids move out of state they will be able to come back and fish for free.

Thanks Grandpa

That is a cool idea, and they not only fish for free, but they are not having to buy on the higher non-resident license fee. Now that makes sense to me.

Wonderful gift. Now you have this grandpa thinking

Well, I got my lifetime license when I was 15 and I've never regretted it. If you look at it financially, it 'pays for itself' in 6 yrs for me. But I guess I also don't plan on moving anywhere permanently. I love MN

I'm pretty sure my dad will get himself one too now that hes over the 51 mark.

Another reference to "I could invest the money". Fact is, you are not investing the money. You are spending it on something else, and most people probably couldn't even tell you where it goes.

I'm pretty sure if I hadn't bought mine, the extra money would have ended up in some bartenders pocket (earlier in life) or in a new set of window treatments (later in life). Neither provide a very good return on investment crazy

I would get a lifetime fishing lisc, to many things can go wrong in life to get a sportsmans. you will always beable to hunker down on a bank to fish but walking in a$$ deep snow with bad knee's when your older could be tough. I havent looked a prices lately but a couple years ago it seemed to be a good deal...

I would rather give the money to the bartender than the government. He has to be able to eat and buy his license too.

I don't drink, do you? so the bartender won't be getting my extra $. I'll keep the 400+$ and take an extra trip someplace to catch some fish and enjoy myself. I hope i can come up with 20$ yearly for a license. I could also spend the extra money on escorts?

So you would rather give your money to a bartender than pre-pay for your right to fish? I think I am understanding why the economy is so messed up.

Sure. The money supports the bartender and a local business which helps the local economy. The economy is messed up from the government and peoples bad decisions (Which by the way don't include not buying a lifetime fishing license).

How does paying the government help the economy?

Somehow i think the point is getting lost that your not paying the government for nothing. you are purchasing a license that you will purchase anyways only at a cheaper long term price. Taking into account you purchase it at an appropriate age to reap the savings. Whether you pay them a little each year which will be more in the long run or a one time payment for a lifetime license you are still giving your money to the same people. So to sum up you are giving the government the money one way or the other. you are still paying for a privledge you want to excercise. The economy is messed up due to some seriously poor choices.not because you are buying a license.

Wow if the deal is great and the break even is quick it is a horrible idea. If the deal is bad and you end up lsoing on the deal all around that's not good either. Now that sounds weird but hear me out. If lots of people buy the lifetime and they all start fishing for free. Then who keeps the system going. DNR runs out of money and there isn't anyone to pay the way left. Now the obvious answer is the legislators will invest the money and it will grow. "BUNK". They will spend it. If they get it all at once they will spend it. And just like every other government run program it will go bankrupt. So I say again if it's a real good deal it's a horrible deal. I actually believe they will have to find a way to add an additional tax to cover ever reduced funding. It just doesn't sound like a logical sustaining plan.

You aren't fishing for free when you buy a lifetime license, you are just paying more upfront. I do agree with you that the government will spend the money.
