Posting pictures? We get upset when someone gets to close to our honey holes and takes fish legally. Imagine the boat ramp thumpings when we start recognizing those who have decided the laws don't apply to them,CO "did you see anything?" SM "No" CO"This guy with the 'P' on his lisence plate said you and your budies were waiting for him when he came back to his car and you had lots of tar and feathers." SM"well who are you going to believe me or this poacher?" CO"Nuff said, go home poacher and wash off those feathers you look silly.

Fisherman are the most protective bunch when it comes to resources. Forums like this are proof of that and that's why I enjoy coming here so often and it's most likely why they don't publicize these guys info to much. we would run out of ter and feathers grin.gif

Abens,
Your comparison is just like companing MADD against drunk drivers. I don't think they will get the sh*t beat out of them but I'm sure people will keep a better eye out for them and pay attention to whats going on around them if they know a poacher is around.

Yeah well, if they want to avoid vigilantes they'll pay closer attention to the regulations. There's so many people out there and so little enforcement manpower, you gotta make the most of it when you get them. I'd like to see the DNR try something different and inovative.

Good point webwarrior. These folks are hot under the collar (who can blame us)but they seem to be heads up when it comes to justice rather than hands on (hands on necks is what I mean) We would be no better if we violated laws trying to enforce laws.

Buck,
But the question is, would you want to risk felony assult charges and have that stay on your record for life just because some dumb@ss kept more fishes then he should? Personally, if I knew they were poaching, I'd just call the TIP line and get the 1,000.00 reward. And that equals to more fishing equpiment rather then serving jail time and being butch's bass if you know what I mean.. haha

Your absolutely right. And you gave me a great idea, I could quit work and drive around the metro area and turn in poachers at $1000 a pop. I know some spots already I could easily make 3-5 grand my first week. I could be like "The Fall Guy" of the great white north.

Seriously though. 1,000 for a 5 minute tip as to where, who and how they're poaching. I'd do it. Not just because of the money, thats just the bonus but because poaching is wrong. Poachers need to learn..

Do the poachers need to be in possession of a gross overlimit to get the $1000 reward? Or just any amount over the limit or any fish out of the slot?

I was totaly unaware that you got a reward.

Wow! Mature, relevant, topic oriented dialogue about poaching, without the thread plummeting into race-baiting!!! Pride washes over me. All points so far are great.

That said, who here wants to look into possibly having the Mn. DNR tips number posted at public boat launches, and being sponsored by Fishingmn.com members? If enough guys and gals here eached put the old "money where the mouth is" and kicked in, say five bucks, I bet we could pay for the DNR to put up an awful lot of signs at public launches with the TIPS number on them. (Sponsored by the members of Fishingminnesota.com) Kind of like the old adopt a highway program.

Unfortunately those darn liberal judges have shot down putting the identification for drunk drivers on the license plate.

I think the poachers should get community service and plenty of it. Like cleaning ditches, clean the litter off the ice in the spring, and cleaning public rest rooms. Ya, that might make them think twice--and keep them off the lakes.

Walleye,
They are hmong. How do I know?? Because, I too am hmong and recognize hmong names when I see it. I am ashamed too, that they would do this because it makes all other law abiding hmongs look bad. Now, every lake I go to, people are going to watch what I'm doing etc. I don't like what they did and what they're projecting by poaching all this fish. Its bad enough hmong people don't have a country "If you remember anything bout the vietnam war and how the hmongs helped the CIA with the secret war etc." but that doesn't give them the right to poach or do any other things that are illegal.

I'm going to avoid the racial fingerpointing altogether. Every time there is a poaching topic, it ends up getting killed.

Just wondering why we all are starting to hear more about poachers getting caught? Are more anglers calling TIP on incidents that were overlooked before? Is the DNR starting to take more action on TIP calls? Is the media finally figuring out these are stories worth reporting?

Whatever it is... I'm glad its happening! The TIP # is in my cell phone! Has been for awhile. Never had to use it yet.

Maybe some of the pro-fisherman could get there boats stickered or painted up with a TIP # endorsement from the DNR to help get the message out. The rapala boat with the big ruler on the side is pretty cool looking. I could see a TIP sponsored boat with a big phone # on the side. wink.gif

You know what I think? I think they should have a letter associated with their license. Say a "W" or something like how drunk drivers do.
Cops can pull over drivers with a special license plate that start with a W for no reason at all. Well, if they do that to "Poachers" as well, then maybe this would cut down on the poachers. I'm glad they got caught though. Serves them right..

hanson:

great idea... it would be great to see people that are the "public figures" of the fishing world promoting that. i still don't think that the people that are committing the crimes will stop because of it, but the people who may not normally be willing to report someone to TIP may do it because they see that other people are supporting the program..
