Has anyone else seen this? I gotta say, I thought them good ole Southern boys would have a better way of taking care of feral pigs. I can't believe they actually chase them around with dogs and then stab them or try to hog tie them. Between there, Florida, and Hawaii, it doesn't seem like anyone has a clue on how to shoot a firearm. I would assume they are considered a nuisance like coyotes are here? Judging from the camera shots and the distances, I could have taken out at least a dozen pigs within a 30 second window if I was there. Dozens of pigs within a hundred yards out in the open, and they are chasing them with a dog? They constantly talk about the intense damage they are causing and how dangerous they are, yet they only seem to get one at a time. Looks pretty stupid and fruitless to me.

It's on right now and has to be one of the dumbest programs I've ever seen on Discovery. Love the part where they claim that they're going to teach the remaining hogs who controls the area. And then there's the doofi that run the $$K Great Dane up against a huge hog, dog gets cut and the woman tries to claim that it's like a member of the family. They must get paid a lot of bucks for each one they catch. And then there was the guy who crawled in the pen with 4 of them so he could tie them up. Apparently they don't have pistols where these guys hang out.

Kupman, I use it as my fish call. I had a couple of buddies who don't fish much up at my cabin this fall. The walleye fishing was slow, so I said we had to do a fish call, and entice them to bite. So I say "here fishy fishy fishy" and caught a 26 inch walleye within seconds of saying it.

Is there laws in those states regarding firearms or hog hunting? I know Hawaii has some of the strictest gun control laws, but Florida and TEXAS? If those things are such a bad thing, you would think they would be out there at night with rifle and night vision. I second what Tom said regarding calling your dog a member of the family, and then sending the thing out alone against a 300 pound hog. I'm sure my brittany could take down a fox, but I'm not gonna send him out to get all beat up in the process when I see one in the backyard.

This also makes me think of all the "hunts" you see them do down south on TV. Shooting big deer in pens at a feeder from 30 yards, maybe they don't actually know how to shoot well down there. Seems to me that I could take out a whole lotta them hogs in one night with a good rifle.

Was thinking the same thing as you guys, pretty lame! I think it would be a blast to bait them in at night and go after them with a .223 or something like that.

I don't see how you make any impact at all getting one a time. I like how they busted that one big hog sleeping and they go back to get ONE dog to take it on? Heck if you see it laying there put a bullet into it! I also don't get why they tie them up, may as well stab them right away versus carrying them alive in the truck.

They were talking about getting them to some one so they could feed needy families. How many families could they feed if they used a rifle and killed more than one a night?

I was thinking the same thing last night when I was watching this. There has to be some reason why they can not shoot them....or is it just for t.v.?

I saw it last night, flipping though the channels and stopped to watch it. It was at the part where they had that 400 lb pig down and were freaking out. I thought what the heck is this. I wonder how long that show will last. There has to be an easier way to get them.

ding ding ding

plenty of folks shoot em down there, usually at night under feeders. the show they put on is just for TV, and for bored rednecks to have a little fun

Hog hunting with dogs and knife is a huge deal down there, just look up hog dog hunts in Texas you will be flooded with stuff. Alot of people do it and it is there hobby, just like chasing coons, or bears with dogs up around here, to him his own. yeah rifles can be more efficient but some people do it for the adrenaline and the meat.

And the dogs for bear I am refering to Wisconsin just so no one gets upset about that.

I just got back from a hog hunt in Oklahoma with my 2 boys. We used guns and bows and had a blast. The ranch owner said that the Hogs gone wild TV show was coming to film a show on his ranch, they were going to use a helicopter and a gun that shot a net to catch the hogs then kill them with a knife?? One of the hogs I shot with the bow I hit a little farther back than I wanted. We tracked it with there blood dog and when we found it the guide grabbed it by the back legs flipped it on its side and told me to take his knife and stab it, I did... but it didnt do anything for me?? But I wasn't the one that grabbed the hog either.

The second week in March I went on a guided wild hog hunt in texas with a group of 8 and it was a blast. We used rifles and slug slug guns. They had us sit in stands early in the morning and late morning we would spot n' stock. Then right before dark we would sit in stands again. When it was dark you would hear them come through the brush and then you would shine them with really bright spot lights with a red lens. For us, the spot n' stock was the most effective with guns. One of the nights I tagged along on one of their dog hunts. It was something else to see. They had hounds track them and pit bulls to do the dirty work. They put Kevlar suits on the dogs around their necks and vitals to protect them from the tusks. It was pretty effective and they only did it at night. The dogs would bail out of the truck before anyone would see them. You could see the dogs get a scent and they were off. One of the guides said the reason why people hog tied them and take them alive is that they will sell them to ranches that have a big fenced in area and offer hog hunts so people are pretty much guaranteed to get one. The guides i went with didn't hog tie them but used knifes because they said they wanted to kill them as fast as possible. I would recommend all hunters to everyone to go on a wild hog hunt with guns sometime. It was very reasonably priced and it was a great way to do some hunting in the winter and get away from the snow and enjoy 80 degree weather. I will defiantly do it again sometime.

I have a friend in Texas who hunts hogs with dogs and knives all of the time.

The reason they do it that way where he is is because the brush gets very thick. They send in the dogs to grab and hold them and the knives because with all of the action they would end up shooting the dogs.

Not sure if it is something I am going to go down and try but i would like to go with a rifle.
