Daytona-Crashes

When viewrship is down a half million, that is serious and NASCAR knows that.

Sponsors will watch that number. Nothing to do with the economy greg.

The 500 may have done ok as it is the biggest race of the year and with the 10 year ann of Sr crashing, that would have also helped those numbers.

Watch the new 3-4 races and see what happens.

Any way you cut it, NASCAR is losing.

well i dont know the exact numbers

but again the rating will level out and nascar will hafta to live with that...nascar has always been overly greedy and they took advantage of a boom in their sport remember it use to be a good ole southern boy sport

espn bought to the fore front and then nascar got greedy and wanted the big bucks..tv contacts big ticket prices..i think i paid 180

for tickets in vegas (for 1)..so while tv bought it to a new audience way and above the normal race fans interest peaked and is now leveling off

and i believe it will just go up and down some like now maybe trevor will bring some new youngin 's to the sport if he continues to do good they will stick around if not they will get bored and move on the true race fans will be here and always will be...i dont think nascar is in danger of going belly any time soon...they might not get as much for their tv contacts but thats life and business they will keep trying to change it to make it appealing and some will like it some wont

Some people thought the racing was great and some thought it was horrible. I am one of the ones that thought it was horrible. 2 cars locked together for 500 miles and NASCAR calls that racing?!?!? Rediculous. Dale Sr. had to be rolling over in his grave watching NASCAR call that [PoorWordUsage] racing.

NASCAR is slowly killing their own sport and they don't even know it, or don't really care.

I don't think anyone here has proclaimed themselves to be an expert in regard to NASCAR. I thought that what we were doing was simply voicing our opinions on a topic. Why can't we be critial of NASCAR? The quality of racing with the COT up to this point IMO has been poor to fair compared to that with the old car. NASCAR is often secretive and inconsistent in the administration of rules. What has NASCAR done to deserve your "blind faith" in them? It's called racing. What NASCAR has now is a 190 mph game of follow the leader.

I used to be a fan, not glued to it every week but I knew what was going on and watched quite a few races. When they started going to these cars that are almost identical to each other except the decals I kind of lost interest. This slot car type of racing is very dull to me.

I would like to be a fan again but it's going to take some big changes to make it interesting again.

Hi Everyone,

I must be in the minority here with this... I thought the racing was actually quite fun to watch since more of the race was in the drivers hands than in the past. I will admit it seemed a bit odd to see the 2 car train, but I found it quite fun to watch as a pair of cars could move up through the middle of two lines (unheard of from years past) and lines would still pass a single that gets shuffled out.

There were 72 lead changes throughout the race, and yes...a few more crashes than what we all have been accustomed to, but it was not all that long ago when the restrictor plates came in that the race was a single line until the last 20 laps... THAT my friends is what I would not call racing.

Due to how the cars ran, the requirement to move forward forced two cars to run one behind the other, but that in itself created it's own strategies...the pushing car could not stay there and the partnered cars had to figure out the best method to swap spots efficiently without losing a huge amount of momentum. The way cars could pull up to another created some problems, but...when you consider the accidents as a whole, the mistakes were due to driver error under new circumstances.

Sometimes I wonder if many of you who don't like the racing at daytona remember back when there were no restrictor plates... the cars were all spread apart all over the track... As the years went on and body aerodynamics changed, the cars bunched together, speeds went up, and thus the "big one" became reality. Ask the drivers whether they liked riding as a pack of 43 cars at close to 200 miles per hour... that is not racing...it was get in line and stay there. We had racing that could take place with strategy on Sunday.. For me, that was refreshing to see!!

Couple of other observations... in another thread, a mention of "we lost Dale Earnhardt" was made. Let's consider if Dale didn't die...would we have hans devices? how about soft walls? The COT car was also designed with driver safety in mind... no doubt far from the "run whatcha brung" days, and definitely nothing "stock" anymore, but safety of the drivers has to be considered here.

Sure...argument could be made that we are seeing more and more regulation, and a car that is more IROC than anything...that part I don't like, as well as this "race to the chase", And...if memory serves me correctly, we will be seeing EFI engines at some point too... But...times are changing, and we must change to some extent too...

I'm in the minority...I thought the race was a good race. A few more crashes than what is considered normal, but it is new racing, and the drivers need to adjust to it. Couple more races and the mistakes will be less, but one thing is for sure...getting a few 2 - 3 car pile-ups is a heck of a lot better than wiping out half the field... a big wreck can still happen, but that potential has been reduced.

Stepping off box now..

steve

I haven't watched nearly as much since the COT. The old cars were more in the driver's hands IMO. It seems that by equalizing all the cars they have dumbed down the sport just like everything else now.
