i am working on a prototype design for a sled and i want to know what do you do with your sled that hauls your ice fishing gear in the summer and winter so i can avoid those problems. every reply will help. you might even see the sled in outdoor stores in the next 2 years.

I put my sled on a rack on the side of the shed and let it set there. No where else to put it as I am currently lacking space. I do have a otter ice house with a big tub sled that sits in the shed so the mice and squirrels don't eat it.

When I lived up north and had more room I did take the otter sled apart and use the sled for random stuff during the warm months. Pulling firewood behind a wheeler, pulling hunting gear and animals, ect.

When nature vision was still around they had a fold up sled during one of their last years that seemed like a good idea but I was never able to get my hands on one before they were all gone.

I usemy otter lodge to pull the kids behind the snow cat an wish it had molded hand holds for them to hold onto like the one that sits to the left of your head in a truck on the passenger side but molded in the side of the tub so their not in the way or along or into the railing. I also use it in the summer to give my dogs a batch so having the tent an pole syetem detachable in a easy convenient way would be a pluse, an a plug like a boat molded with a male an female coupler. Ya know i think i might pattent that, just kidding. good luck, moled cup holders?. I think the dye for such a thing would be very expensive. good luck I'm a thinker so I might have more. Boar

My Otter portable gets tied up to the rafters in the garage. Its out of the way and mice can't get to it.

If I just had just the Otter sled I'd put it upside down over the lawn tractor and stick a tarp over it to keep the sun off.

Note there isn't room in my garage for the tractor or the extra sled.

I use mine for deer hunting as well. Makes it easier to drag the deer and easier to load it into the vehicle. I just use a 2x8 for a ramp. It keeps the blood from my vehicle and it serves as a drip pan for catching the blood that would drip onto the floor of the garage. I had to use one for goose hunting this year. There was too much snow to drive into the field.

I store them in a metal storage shed for the summer.

I have one of those, Deadeye.

You can still find them on the E auction site. Look under "pak sled". Looks like they're selling pretty cheap.

They work pretty good, if you're not hauling a lot of things. After you're done, they roll up and you can put them in a bag they come with.

I take my smaller sled that I use just for hauling around gear hole and put it into my larger tub sled that has my ice house on it. Last couple years it was in my parents shed. Now that I have my own place I'm trying to decide how to hang it from the rafters in the pole shed and if that will suffice to keep mice out or what other measures I will need to take.

Robert,

Mold at least 4 "bars" along the outside of the sled. First, so the kids could hold on the something and second (most important wink ) so we would have a convenient and reliable place to hook ratchet straps across the top of the sled/canvas to tie down gear. AND so two guys can have a good hand hold to lift the fully loaded fish house into the back of a truck.

Also, mold in a couple holes below the top rail, on or just behind the leading edge of the sled. That way we could strap a bungee across the front to pinch down the front of a cover nice and tight so snow wouldn't fill the inside of the sled with snow from the snow mobile track.

All this can and will be done to my tub with extra eye hooks but good, solid molded holds would sell a sled in my opinion.

There, that will be one MILLYON dollars... grin

I have an small Otter sled for ice fishing. When season is done, I put my gear in it, put the cover on, then store up in the garage.

Sled needs to fit in the trunk of my car (Nissan Maxima) and also sits in the back of the minivan. I just wish it was a bit wider for the same length.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
