cbrooks
This bill basically changes the non-resident from two 7 days to three 4 days. I personnaly think this is more fair for non-residents even though you lose a couple days. Atleast I think we are moving in the right direction. Curious what some of you guys that travel from out of state think of this bill. For the record I think its ridiculous having only two 7 days hunting season for non-residents. cbrooks
In my states defense. I will say we are more non-resident friendly than some of the others states. I agree with what you say.I would like to add that North Dakota had a bill like this a couple years ago I think that was 5 three day NR season. It was narrowly defeated so I could see this one going. Take 'Em
I think they should leave it the way it is. If two seven day periods is not enough and killing duck is so important why not just move to ND? Legislators always have some kind of agenda. I’m guessing if you were to look into the bill sponsors they are from counties/regions with tons of NR’s. They see this bill as more money in their pocket. Maybe 1% of the local population would benefit from this. The rest would see nothing but additional pressure and competition for hunting areas. Trust me ND does not need NR hunting license money either, they have something called oil. NR should be happy they have the chance to come to ND. Instead many what to come for two weeks a year rape the resource go home tell everyone there is no pressure and complain about how bad NR have it. Why ruin such a pristine area with additional hunters/leases/pressure? Makes no sense to me.

In reality, we are all americans.. why should stuff be closed off/limited to those who live over imaginary lines? Other states who allow NR hunting all season seem to be getting by just fine with all the added "pressure".What would ND residents do if Minnesota limited their right to SHOP or stay in Minnesota? Kids in ND would grow up not knowing what civilization and people look like. Since Target field is payed for with Minnesota tax dollars should we limit ND residents to one game a year but only after the all-star break because they could be taking tickets that tax paying Minnesotans would buy? Recon
I like this bill, works for me. Buy another license if 14 or 12 days is not enough. I personally like the friendly people of ND and great hunting to boot!

Sunnie
Maybe if South Dakota was more liberal with their NR waterfowl regulationsit would take the pressure off of North Dakota. All I know is where I hunt in SE ND My business is greatly appreciated and I would be more than willing to spend additional time and money there in the fall. As for the oil money I don't see any of it being spread around in the eastern half of the state yet. And as for harvesting ducks isn't that a large part of what it's all about or am I confused. PS. I own a house out there pay taxes and vacation there at least 8 times a year and enjoy myself and my friendshipstremendously.
brittman
one day ND will stop shooting themselves in the foot from a economic standpoint Your comment is based on what facts? There is no limit to the number of licenses sold in ND for either waterfowl or upland. They make you pay more to hunt waterfowl in the whole state vs picking a zone. A nonresident can buy additional upland game licenses. The number of licenses they sell is right near the limit acceptable to resident hunters. Most hotels, rental houses, and other business are near capacity anyways and additional NR would have some difficulty finding lodging. In the windmill areas and oil field country these motels and homes are sold out year around now and no longer reliant on hunters.
goblueM
well its the same principle behind the DNR in MN wanting to be cautious about raising fishing license fees. at some point you start pricing a lot of people out of the sport. I sure as hell wouldn't buy a license to hunt in ND if I could only pick a 4 day period. I like having at least extremely limited flexibility. with 4 days you have nonewhat is the practical point of the bill? reducing non-resident hunters? that certainly seems to be the point of it from my perspective

Unlike SD it is easy to change the dates as long as you change the dates BEFORE the 1st day of your time period. This bill gives NRs the possibility of 3 weekend periods instead of 2. Gordie
My only problem with is I base my vaction on 5-7 days and now I can only hunt there 4 days or could you possibly run 2 4 day hunts back to back if so No problem with me.I do however like the fact that 4 weekends could be used
cbrooks
I found another bill 1407 that will allow non-residents to hunt ND early goose season in Benson, Ramsey, and Towner counties(just north of Devils Lake). This would be early September and will not count against there 14 day NR hunting season.
goblueM
brittman, what I am saying is that i don't have flexibility WITHIN my hunting period. Bad weather? bummer. unforseen circumstances with my vehicle? bummer. just a poor day hunting? Now I can't stay an extra day on the end if I want, or go hunting with some of the landowners I've become friendly withi know ND is great about changing the days of the hunting period beforehand, but with 4 days there is NO wiggle room. Gordie
I think that I will have to become a resident in order to take full advantage of the hunting season but I will have to wait one more year till the wife is a RN then its Devils lake area here I come... at least thats what I'm praying for.. walleye18
Guys..I just have to reply to this. I have 2 homes in ND. One a rental and the other a hunting house. For the last 6 years I have hunted waterfowl/pheasants etc...as a non resident. The 14 day waterfowl season for non residents is a "one time license". Meaning, you cannot purchase another one for the year to continue to waterfowl hunt. What I see in ND is this - most of the folks hunting waterfowl are non residents - fact!! Statistically, non residents far out weigh residents when it comes to waterfowl hunting. The $$ these people bring into the small towns in rural ND is huge. Cafe's, area businesses, etc, survive on the $$ hunting brings to the area - I know. One of the farmers that I hunt with is also the Mayor of this small town - he states that the $$ hunters bring to the community is important for the town survival. Point being, changing the non resident season to 3 - 4 day periods is great. Not only will it bring more $$ to ND, but it lets the non resident hunters choose and use his times for waterfowl hunting is a "better way".I do agree with the argument that having a non resident 14 day season for waterfowl is @#$%#@#$.Should we have all non residents who come to MN and fish only get 14 days? This would make things fair - would'nt it? Too bad the polititians who make the laws in ND are all from GF and Fargo. I will never understand the 14 day argument for non resident waterfowl hunters in ND.
cbrooks
walleye 18. I agree with you. I look at it the same way you mention with the fishing NR for Minnesota. I don't follow what you mean from politician are all from GF and Fargo. I feel most of the anti NR in North Dakota comes from the west but maybe I'm wrong. If there is a politician iin the senate voting against this please let me know. I'm a voter here and I support extending the NR season.

A study about 8 - 10 years ago showed that ND residents spent more total $$ while hunting waterfowlin ND. I will give you the notion that nonresident dollar spend is higher in the hospitality sector (loding and dining).
Sunnie
I WOULD SAY THE RESIDENT DOES SPEND MORE BECAUSE THEY GO MORE OFTEN.HOWEVER THEY DON'T SPREAD THEIR MONEY AROUND LIKE THE N.R. YOU CAN GAS UP IN FARGO OR BISMARK PACK A LUNCH AND NOT SPEND A DIME IN THE AREA YOU ACTUALLY HUNT IN.
Bryce
Worthless study by the anti NR side. Figured in all the gear purchased by resident hunters. Apples to oranges.
