cbrooks
Yeah I could see BC sneaking in the top four and pushing one of the WCHA teams out. They have a pretty easy schedule remaining. The only rank teams they have is a game against Boston U and a series with New Hampshire. I think they swept Denver earlier this year.
scsavre
So how does UND move up. Splitting is better then being idle? How does Yale not move down. I dont get it.
cbrooks
Thats a good question. Bear had a good point earlier in this thread about having the krach system in place instead of the pairwise. This system doesn't move UND down but it does with Yale. KRACH rankings1.UMD2.UND3.Yale4.Denver5.BC6.Wisconsin7.Michigan8.New Hampshire9.RPI10.Notre Dame11.Union12.Boston U13.Merrimack14.Weston Michigan15.Miami16.CC17.UNO18.Dartmouth19.Alaska20.Maine21.Minnesota22.Princeton23.AA24.Mankato25.BSUI guess UND spliting the last three weekends doesn't move you up or down. solbes
There's so much movement in pairwise with games outside of your control, that I don't get too worked up over top 10 seeding until we get close to the end. But it is strange how UMD kept moving down even though Yale got swept and UND split. IF we can grab 3 or 4 points this weekend, that might bump us up again. BC sure shot up the ranks quickly. Watch out UND fans, it's your old nemesis again.
PierBridge
Solbes Teams are awarded three points for each win in regulation or overtime, and one point for an overtime tie. Conference games tied after 65 minutes advance to a three-player shootout with the winning team receiving an extra point in the standings.Other than disagreeing with almost everything in Scarves last post on page 2 that's all I got!.... Hard to say we're the best conference when we haven't sniffed a title in years!I'd say 2nd is stretch and probably 3rd would be more fitting! solbes
Good to hear from you Pier. Kinda confusing, so let me get this straight:3 points of winning in regulation3 points for winning in the 5 minute OT2 points for winning in shootout1 point for tie in OT & loss in shootout0 points for loss in regular timeJeepers, why didn't they just adopt the NHL model? Guess they gotta feel special they have their own little unique empire there. The incentive would be to really push for a win in OT, because a shootout loss only gives you 1/3 the points of a win.If we can put a hex on BC this year, one of the WCHA teams will win it. Kind of a big IF (Note I hate that BC has done so well lately).

Miami also had a huge weekend, sweeping Michigan.Big WCHA series next weekend between Wisconsin and UNO. Rooting for the Gophs over Denver. cbrooks
That makes both of us rooting for the Gophs. Looking at the remaining schedule for the WCHA for Denver@ MinnesotaMich Tech@UNOSCSUI'm hoping they don't get more than 10 pts. UND remaining scheduleAA@SCSUBSUMich TechBy far the easiest schedule left. 12 pts isn't asking for too much for my team. UMD remaining scheduleSCSU@Mankato@CCUNOI think if your team can get 12 pts with whats left of the season you have a good chance of getting the #1 seed. cbrooks
With BU's lost last night it moves Miami right into the magical top 16 team. Of course the pairwise only counts once a year and each division has playoffs yet. Miami would be a dangerous first round game for a #1 seed. That would be a good team to put money on. Bear55
You might as well kiss that 16th seed goodbye, the team that wins the Atlantic conference should take that spot, you also could have other upsets so anyone on the 15th or 16th spot in the pairwise could be in trouble. Even 14th is kind of too much on the bubble for a sure thing. Lets say the WCHA has 5 teams in the top 12 and the 6th team is sitting on 14th or 15th place, they might just pick someone else and I think that has happened in the past. cbrooks
Your right. I have a short memory. I think I can recall the devision BSU was in would bump someone off the top 16. It looks like RIT(weak conf) will be one of those teams. Well with atleast one of those leagues gone so there won't be as many bubble teams getting the shaft. If I'm a Minnesota fan (given where there at in the pairwise currently)I would want my team to finish atleast in the top 3 in the final 5 IMO. Does anyone disagree with that? What would Minnesota need to do at minimum to make the NCAA tourney?
solbes
Tough road to get an at large bid from the remaining schedule; they are #21 right now. In 08/09, Wisconsin did not get in with a 20-16 overall record and 31 WCHA points. Last year UMD did not get in with a 22-17 overall and 33 WCHA points. Both were bitter pills to swallow. But then some years like 07/08, six WCHA teams got in with bottom 3 earning 25, 27, and 28 points in WCHA. Tough to predict I guess. I think 12-13 points from remaining 16 would get them in for sure, even with first round playoff losses. Less points required if they do well in F5. [Two pennies]Sweep Denver, or get at least 3, and it looks a lot better. Go Goldy!
Bear55
I haven't looked into all the details but I am honestly starting to believe we will need to win the WCHA tournament and get the auto bid to make the NCAA's this year. We just haven't won enough games to make it as an at large bid and there are too many good teams between us and those last couple of at large spots. Some of them might tank but not all of them and I don't have much faith in us going on a winning streak but maybe it's possible. Anything short of 3 wins against Denver/Wisconsin and taking care of business against BSU/Tech and we might as well rest our top players for the playoffs. scsavre
Yah, it is a long shot. We would need 3 of 4 vs denver and wisc. then sweep tech and bemidji. . And win 2 games in the tourny. the one thing the gophs have is wins vs top teams so far. that can help, but we need more wins all together. we have 11 wins. ouch

cbrooks
My guess for the top 5 at the end of the regular season will be1.BC2.UND3.Denver4.Yale5.UMDI'm just hoping the WCHA teams don't wear each other out in the final 5. I wonder if UND finishes the season strong, they could lose in the final 5 and stillmake the tourney. That way they could be rested up for the NCAA tourney. I remember last year they played 6 games in 9 days. They lost to Yale last year they looked wore out. I ain't looking for a Bourmoor trophy I want the NCAA title. scsavre
I still think the WCHA teams give it more effort at the WCHA tourny vs the NCAA. THey just leave it all on the ice. UND better hope for an easy trip to the WCHA tourny, if thats possible.
cbrooks
]UND better hope for an easy trip to the WCHA tourny, if thats possible. Just as long as UND can get a #1 seed they can avoid BC that way. Miami is another team I would want to avoid. Of course if your gonna be the best you have to beat the best. scsavre
Come on Brooks. Dont start off scared. Listen to yourself. I think I have more faith in the Sioux VS any of these teams. It will be hard for the Sioux to not get a number 1 seed. You know Yale and BC are going to have cake walks though. They will put Denver with them and Miami or something, maybe Mich and Notre Dame. It wont be easy.
