are any of the hub houses better then the other? aren't they all made in china? i have the clam base camp thermal and i'm on my second one and used it twice so far and the skirt is starting to rip and the zippers are starting to. the verelco stips inside were not all sewn in the right place for them to hold the poles. so what does a guy buy?

I'm planning on buying used until they start making them where they are made the best instead of where they are made the cheapest.

I just returned a Cabela's 6X6 that was made by Clam in China. The the bolt you pull on to pop the top up was stripped at the factory and just pulled out leaving the nut and hub assembly cap laying on my basement floor. I am really glad that happened at home rather than on the ice. I returned the defective unit to Cabelas and got a new one. the zippers on the replacement unit are extremely tight and I am strethcing this thing out in the basement before taking it our on then ice.

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHICH HUB SHELTERS HAVE THE BEST QUALITY/RELIABILITY REGARDLESS OF PRICE?

I would gladly be willing to pay $275 - 350 for a good one that would last for 5-years.

I've fished out of a Eskimo3 several times. No problems but I do wonder when its going to rip looking at the tightness on the seams and Etc. This hub is on its 2nd year. They are nice though on little wind days for portablity.

The eskimo's are nice and have a good price point. Glen's Outdoors up in Grand Rapids starting making some this year. I had a basecamp from Clam but it only had one door and the zipper was way to tight, problems were about to happen. I order the Glen's because it had two doors and the zippers on the doors were two straight pulls meeting in the middle instead of one long rounded zipper. There's not nearly as much tension and I don't have to worry about the durability of the zippers anymore. I took a chance and bought a 6X6 early on and I'm so happy I did. I wrote a review about it and I would recommend them to anyone. They have a 1 man, 3 man (6X6 which they are waiting on another shipment - they didn't expect them to sell nearly this quickly), and a 6X12. They also said they have thermal versions but you just have to call and ask about them.

I believe the Glen's houses are made by AP Outdoors. They have the extreme house series available at Reed's too. I fished out of the 6x6 thermal, it was pretty nice.

Bought a clam popup this year just as a back up and for early ice. Have used it 4X and have had to return it three times. Came out of the box with a broke pole, returned it used it once and another pole broke, returned it and used it once the strap pulled through the material. The last time I returned it I asked the guy if they where [PoorWordUsage] and he just shook his head yes.. Lesson learned, I hope they get it togother as they are local and I like to support local companies. But until I hear otherwise I will not be sending any more of money their way.

ht is usually a below average brand in the ice fishing world, but my ht insta-shak I bought last season to start my ice hobby and used it over 20+ times now, has not had a problem at all. Mine was a combo with a sled/cover and 2 chairs at gander... awesome at $150. Only pro i can see with a house is blocking the wind.. which is why i picked up a giant 5x10 for my brothers and I when we go out.. $100 used.. wow that's a steal, and it does the same thing as my ht.. blocks the wind. save your money for a better heater or gear.. that's my opinion.

Finally got a response thru email this afternoon. Not sure what to make of it. It tells me to do everything I did already. Example : E mail pics ,copy of reciept, explanation of problems, address ... or return it to gander ?!?!?! To thier credit, they said they would take care of the problem though.

Yeah Bought mine at Thorne Bro's they said they don't have any more and to call Clam on mine because they won't be getting anymore this year. Still haven't heard from Clam. Fishing season will be finished before I get something taken care of. That's makes a guy think of a different make of shelter IMO. Good thing I have two others.

I bought a clam summit about 2 weeks ago and set it up in my garage and saw all the loose string hanging off it everywhere, read this post a few days ago and chickend out and brought it back yesterday to gander. They asked if anything was wrong with it and i told them it had not yet broke but from what i read on here it would in a day or two. they would not give my money back but made me take a in store credit.

whatever it beter than being stuck on the lake with broken [PoorWordUsage] house
