Abu Garcia Revo Toro 61 HS

Recommended Posts

I am looking for a new reel for pulling big blades. I want the low profile and the high speed and am looking at Abu Garcia Revo Toro 61 HS. Is the only difference between the Abu Garcia Revo Toro 61 HS and the winch the gear ratio? All I have read is good things about them. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Don't go with the HS ratio for pulling blades. The lower ratio would be better 5:3:1 or 4:6:1 would even be better IMO. I have both the HS and the 5:3:1 ratio. Lower ratio for pulling big blades and they will last longer. My HS went a couple times the year before last. Good luck.

If you want to pull big blades then get one of the saltwater reels and be done with it. While a Toro, Calcutta, Luna, etc CAN pull big blades they all have a history of not doing it comfortably or without breaking down on a regular/semi-regular basis. You also can't get the speed you need to see fish during the day with other reels either. Go with a Trinidad or Saltist if you're serious about pulling these baits how they're meant to be fished.

I agree 100% with Mr. Kellett, you will not regret getting a saltwater reel for pulling big blades. I bought an Avet JX (I am a lefty) a couple years ago, I'm pulling in 38 to 39 inches of line/crank when spooled correctly and it is the best purchase I have ever made, as far as musky fishing goes. Pair one of the above mentioned saltwater reels with a 9ft. rod and you will have an awesome blade set-up.

Another vote to back up Shawn. Fellow memeber on here that I fish with has a Saltist 20HA and fishing side by side with him and my toro 60 with the 5:4 and his Saltist made small work of the blades. My Revo could still do it but it seemed that I was working a lot harder than he was to keep the same speed. A Saltist 20HA will find its way into my boat before opener.

Bucktailer-

I love my Avet. Both the Trindad 16N (which is what most guys are using) and my Avet pick up 46" of line per crank. When spooled correctly, it's closer to 40", so very, very fast. I have the JX-MC 6.0:1. Avet's are designed as saltwater livebait/jigging reels, so if you are going to get one, make 100% sure you get an MC (Master Cast) model. Also, make sure you spool it with ROUND line. I recommend Stren's round braid. Great reel for Supermodels all the way down to showgirls, not so much for big rubber...

Thanks. That 832 looks like it might be pretty good. I have been using Tuffline XP and I can't explain it but I just don't like it. Of course it could be that the rig is so dam heavy that I wouldn't like anything! On some of my lighter stuff I use regular Tuffline and like that just fine.

I run the Toro 60's on 9' Tackle Industries telescoping rods and they are well balanced and don't wear you down like other rods I have used, my old Muskie Innovations rod I could only cast a couple hours before it beat me down, with the TI I'm good all day. Having a light well balanced combo makes even the biggest baits much easier to throw for the long haul.

I have 4 now, been using them since they first came out, was real leary out buying a "cheap" rod since I had just had a Predator built but the TI rods are now my go to rods and the high end Loomis is collecting dust, the Predator only gets used a few times a year by the wife and daughter when they tag along.

I can't believe the plug you guys are giving TI rods. I have a few St Croix and a KT custom rod. I'll see how they compare this summer to the TI. There really a higher quality rod than the other high end rods out there?

Better quality? The quality of many brands, is great! Now if you start talking comfort, feel, castablity, and price; then you may find differences. I feel these rods give me all those things and at a competetive price. smile

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
