Bucket Back

Too many hours spent hunched over a hole in the ice . What is the best bucket, cushion set -up.

A boat seat screwed to the top of a cooler works pretty well, but a bucket just doesn't have a wide enough base to make a backrest pay off.

Its an extra thing to carry but you could try a folding camp chair.

For pure utility and comfort. The Clam Chair backpack is a good rig. Especially in a sloppy year like we have now.

I found that Clam chair to only be good if your a smaller person. Im 6'6" and was 255#at the time and that thing didnt last very long with me. Even when it was working it wasnt very well made or comfortable to sit on. I would just get a good folding chair of some sort and use that.

Buckets just dont have the size or base for a backrest worth a darn. You used to be able to buy the ones made out of wood that sat on top of a bucket but I havent seen them in a while.

I use a cheap camping chair, the $8-12 dollar models you can pick up at walmart or target, that collapse up. I've even thought about bringing one of my beach adirondak (plastic) chairs out there to relax back with - they have better lower back support (and I've got a touchy ol' back).

Don't forget to have a pad on chair as the bottom gets really cold. The nylon camping chairs are bad for that. Also a piece of carpet or mat for under the feet. Now ready to go!!!!!!!!!

I to use a folding chair. I picked up two almost new ones with cloth padded seats at Savors, GoodWill type store, in RiverFalls for $10.

I also bring a long a lawn chair that reclines to take a siesta during the slow periods with a buzzer on the deadstick Note; I fish out of a 8x8 canvast craft so I have the room.
