cjac
So, I installed the new dishwasher, checked all MY connections, and found out later (when I went downstairs and noticed the lower level ceiling was dripping) that there was a leak from a connection on the water line I didn't touch but must have loosened up when moving the old unit out and the new one into place. So, now I have a couple 8 inch diameter circle water marks on the lower level popcorn ceiling. Can I sand it down, prime with Kilz, and use one of those popcorn ceiling repair kits? I know color/texture may not be pefect, and I can repaint the ceiling later, but for now it that a "Doable" option?Frustrating to get that close on a project and hit a snag with a visible flaw. Suggestions? Thanks, Chris
hartner62
Is the ceiling painted? If not, do you have access to a sprayer? I wouldn't scrape the ceiling unless it is already coming down, just spray it with Kilz or cover stain and spray out the whole ceiling after the Kilz has completely dried. If it isn't dried completely and you try to paint the stain will come back through. The repair kits are junk in my opinion.
buddha
I've had luck with Kilz and it covered up red paint on a white celing.
cjac
It's not painted, just the spray finish, that's where I was hoping I could dry thoroughly, apply the Kilz, and do the popcorn coverup and repaint the entire ceiling come Spring. I'm basically trying to get rid of the eyesore for now....
SFC
The spray cans for pocorn ceilings dont work. If the texture hasnt let loose just leave it dry. If u really want to take it off dont sand, just wet the area and scrape. Lots of video on u tube.
hartner62
Instead of Kilz use Cover Stain. It will dry down closer to the finish/sheen of unpainted popcorn and will also seal up your stain.
Surface Tension
Let it dry.Use a flat white aerosol stain killer. Start with a very light coat at the darkest area of the stain.Let it dry and give a second coat on the darkest area again. Don't try and do a 100% coverage, instead think blending. Your last coat should match and at the same time feather back a little bit.
