Big Buddy Heater Question

bigdog2755

Question

I have a big buddy heater when hooking up bulk propane tank and i fire it up it does fine until i switch it to two burners. It then does not heat like it should, it seems to lose pressure, but if turn it back down to the medieum setting it does fine. I,ve hooked up a green 1 lb cylinder to it, turned to two burners and it heats like it should. I use the 5ft black hose and fuel filter. What might be the problem? Is there anything i can do to fix it?

Only the Mr. Buddy quick coupler hose for the Big Buddy has a regulator already on it....not one that will go into the 1 lb tank orifice.

Use a hose with no regulator to the open 1 lb tank orifice, and the Mr. Buddy in line filter, and it should be good to go.

No you don't have to buy a hose specifically for the buddy but the regulated r.v. quick disconnect hose with the pressure regulater is the way to go.

Is the 5' hose you are using regulated or not regulated? Have you tried it on either side of the big buddy?

It is non- regulated

I have tried it on both sides

Maybe i will have to buy the quick connect hose with the regulator.

Do you think this will solve the problem?

Will still need to use a filter?

Thank you for all your responses, as you can probably tell this is all new to me

I would say you have a bugger or two in it someplace, restricting the gas flow, and then it senses low fuel pressure and shuts down.

Check the Mr. Buddy site in the troubleshooting tips section on how to clean the system. Then try the hose again with the filter on.

I would use a filter whenever you are using a tank larger than a 1 lb tank... Used to work at a propane shop in the cities happened all the time it would get gummed up without that filter.

The filter is not necessary when using the R.V. quick disconnect hose with the regulator!

Where do you live? Maybe one of us who have one will let you try ours to see if that will solve your problem.

Might not be a bad option. If it works with the one pounds than there has to be a problem with the hose or your tank. That's the only thing that changes.

Hope you can get it going / figured out. Let us know what the problem was if / when you get it fixed. I'm more confused now more than ever. I really like the Buddy "in theory", but they've got a ways to go to be "proven." Keep trying to figure em out. I"ll get one when there aren't new threads started every other day. Good luck.

I have had one since the first winter they came out with one. Never had any issues with either. The first one was recalled because of the potential for a faulty switch. Otherwise I have shown many people mine running outside of the portable with a breeze! They are great units IMO but you either get one that works, get one that doesn't, or do something that causes them not to work.

I dont thinks its the tank or the hose i just bought them brand new within the last two weeks. I tried taking it apart to clean it and

followed the instruction manual got confused and gave up! Tommorow i will call the company directly to see if they can give me some insight. I will post what they tell me just in case someone else is having this problem.
