Gander Line

Has anyone else had this problem. Last year before my family's annual trip to Canada, my father went to Gander and was looking to buy some line. We after speaking with one of the workers, he offered to put line on his reel for free. At fist I thought that was awfully nice of them to do that, that is until my dad got to Canada. Well over the trip he proceeded to lose about 5 or 6 fish to the line breaking before he changed line. It looks like the spool that he used was pretty brittle. I always put my own line on so I am unsure if this was just an accident or has this happened to anyone else. I like gander enough, and the workers seem pretty friendly, so I hope that this was just an accident.

I had the same problem with Tectan line I bought from Cabelas last year. I did not see it in stock at the store nor on the catalog.

I think the best tip I got from someone was go somewhere where there is alot of turnover in the fishing products. Better chance of not getting a box from last year.

Odd coincidence. Gander chugs through the line. It turns over really fast. Especially in the prime walleye weights (4#, 6# & 8#). The line is Trilene or Stren. How bad can it be? Must have been a bum spool, or perhaps dad abraided his own spool without knowing it.

Ya, the line was 6lb Trilene... I thought it must have been bad line, I would think that they would go through the stuff pretty quick...

I work at Gander, and yes we turn a huge amount of line. It comes to us on bulk spools and we wind it for you. The GS line is a premium line very similar to XL Trilene. It is very possible you could get a bad spool of any given batch.
