Just got the boat out of storage and noticed the plug end of my transducer cable is chewed off--- I mean its gone---
I have had problems in the past with rodents taking up winter residence in my boat, even chewing wire covering off the wires on my 4-wheeler. Any coments on keeping the critters out of my toys...

I have heard moth balls work but I'm sure someone has a better idea out there. I've put moth balls in my portable fish house and that seemed to do the trick for me. Good luck!

Backlash, make sure to check inside you motor, I had a mouse build a nest inside there and had I not looked I would have ruined my engine. Try spreading Bounce fabric softner or moth balls in and around the areas mice inhabit.

I also use the fabric softner sheets in my boat. Last year two other boats in the same building as mine had holes chewed in the carpet and covers and mine wasnt touched.

Thanks guys for the input, but these meces are tough up here. I did try the fabric softner sheets this year and they still ate my cable end, the sheets I put in my rod locker look like they have been used as a neighborhood outhouse for mice.
I will also try the mothballs and I wonder if D-CON could be the answer???

Been down the Fabric softner sheets and mothballs road. Mothballs make the boat STINK all year long and as stated above, the rodents use the sheets for bedding. (once the smell is gone,in about a month). I've been using "Oil of Peppermint" on cotton balls for the last 4 years or so, and the boats on both sides (within 3') of mine in storage have suffered extensive wiring and sound dampening/ insulating material damage while I HAVE NOT found as much as a Turd in mine! It's available in health food stores and about $8 for a 2oz bottle. Just put 3 to 4 drops on a cotton ball and 5 or 6 cotton balls should take care of the whole boat. Word has it that the best repellent for rodents is MINT and this is about as concentrated as mint can be. Sorry, Chocolate covered mints won't work. All they'll do is get you a second date with a romantic mouse! I'll never use the Dryer sheets or mothballs for rodents again!!

Ditto of the Oil of Peppermint. I carry this product in my store and have to order a couple of extra cases in the fall for the cabin owners. I use it for my ice fishing gear and boat. I also use it in a storage shed. There are woods all around my house and I have yet to have a mouse problem.

Find a bar of good and stinky soap (I use Irish Spring), grate it up, and spread it around. Totally keeps the rabbits out of my garden, heard it works on mice too. Smells much better than the moth balls and not quite as strong as the peppermint.

A dozen bars of Dove® soap has kept the mice out of the motorhome and pop-up camper the last 2 years.

I tryed the "cat trick" when I covered and stored my boat this winter. My question is, how do I get the smell of dead cat out of my boat?
9 lives? Not when they're stored in the boat all winter!

My buddy honestly tried the cat thing a couple of years ago. Put his boat in my cousins barn (number one mistake) where if there is 1 cat, there are about 50. Well, no mice problems, but the cats had kittens in there...................EEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!

Would of been better off dealing with the mice............

I have found that if you remove your tie down straps that they really cant climb into the boat. Also make sure you dont have anything leaning against your boat. Maybe this doesnt work for everyone but it did for me.

try leaving an appliance plugged in...then when the chew the chord...the fry themselves...

(just happened to the kid's gerbil...chewed the power chord on rock warmer in the terrarium...zapp!)
