Frabill Predator or Otter Lodge

and yes I like that it's made here in Mn.

You better look again, pal, the only thing on an otter that's built in Mn. is the sled. The rest is built in China. I was pretty disappointed when I finally got my Otter Lodge and saw every box was marked...Made In China. IF I ever buy another portable it won't be a Otter.

Otter may have some pieces made in China as well as most others as a company will find it hard to compete if it's all American made.

I guess it's like the fishing poles we purchase today. If the rod blank is made in the U.S.A. then I would bet some of the components if not all may also be made overseas.

I like to also purchase American made products but if I can purchase a quality product, then I personally can overlook it if some of the components are not.

I just want to recieve a quality product and also recieve good customer service from the company I do business with.

Very few products that are nade today are all American made. Very few.

Back to the subject at hand.

I believe it's hard to compare these 2 portables when one is insulated and one is not. Both are good products and yes, the Otter tub is one tough tub and maybe the best on the market.

A better comparison may be the Frabill against the Canvas Craft insulated portable.

harvey lee,

there is no comparison between frabill and canvas craft since canvas craft is the company that makes the insulated tent for frabill. the only true difference is the pole system and the sled it all goes on.

The Frabill frame system is a much sturdier design on the Predator, imposable to get them out of square with the modular turnbuckle system. The 1.25" heavy gauge aluminum support frame is tough as can be, and lighter. No stressed conduit 90 deg bends to get bent out of square. The Frabill Max Venting system dissipates humidity well without snow sift down your neck. In my opinion, all around, better engineering.

The new Frabill Roto Molded tubs, are as tougher or tougher than the Otter Pro tubs too.

I was thinking about replaceing my otter lodge i bought in 01, my poles at the end of last year are about shot wore through and started galling. I looked at my sled tonight it has never had hyfax on it and yes it has gouges and wear but i think it will last another 9 years. I looked at the new clam and frabill houses this weekedn what is up with the plastic on the pole latches. This will break when it gets cold. I am ordering a new canvis craft for my old sled.the frabill tubs didnt look like good plastic to me

The little "Button Pusher" thingies on the Clams are a nice idea I guess, if your not a fan of Push'n Buttons.

But yes, they tend to get snapped off, or snag fishing line, or drop off mysteriously someplace.

I figure...That's why Clam sells bags of replacement Button Pusher...Thingies . wink
