thatoneguy
My two largest both came on my second-to-last time out, too. Gotta love fall fishing! My first time bass fishing was when Meat Run took me out in early July and showed me the ropes. After that, I was out usually 4-5 days a week usually for a few hours at a time (can't bail on the wife and kids completely, ya know), just trying different things, learning about what spots held fish etc. I didn't catch anything bigger than about 3 1/2 lbs until late August, when I started to figure it out a little better as far as what the bigger fish liked and where they hung out. I learned that the west side of Leech has about ten million bass between 3 and 3 1/2 lbs, but finding the bigger ones takes a lot more doing! Next year I want to fish the east side a little more and see if I can find some piggies over there
grab the net
6-2 - Frog6-1 - Jig6-0 - SenkoJefflake is a stud, every year he puts up some of the biggest fish on this forum if not the biggest. 7's are a given for him.
Jig Master
I fish the same general area as Jefflake listed. A lot south of lakeville, Faribault, all the way to Mankato and some past there. A lot of good lakes that put out some real hogs. I'm sure I easily had 20 bass this year over five pounds. But to qualify that, I did fish 5-6 days a week this summer as work was slow to non-existant for me. A real heart breaker was that I lost the largest fish I have ever hooked in MN this fall. When they get that big they are tough to judge, but I had a great look at her and she was way over seven....
kt
I didn't actually weigh many fish this year. But biggest i had on a scale was 6.4 lb. Biggest 3 lengthwise this year out of my boat were:22" wacky worm (getting it mounted because I couldn't revive it)21.5" Jig21.5" Sweet Beaver21.5" SammyThis year was probably my best year for numbers of 20+" fish. Caught 20" fish on eleven different lakes in the area. Which speaks volumes to the quality of the bass fishing in this great state. I whole heartedly believe one of the biggest reasons this year was probably my best was due to the upgrades I put in my boat. I mounted a vexilar up front and installed a humminbird 898 at the console this spring. Those two tools really help you hone in on little sweet spots and effectively search for new spots. jefflake
I am fortunate enough to live on a lake that I have fished for over 50 years.I also fish most every day of the season...until we ice up or I have to pull the boat, which I did two weeks ago. There are a few days during the course of the year that I can't get out because of work or some other reason, but for the most part I try and get out as often as I can.Bass fishing is what I live for......I fish walleyes for two weeks before the bass season opens, after that, strictly bass.I tried wading recently but my reel and guides iced up to fast. Might be done now because of the weather.
Juan Grande
Nice fish everyone. My biggest of the season was a 20.25 smallie on Mille Lacs which I got on a grub. Nothing over 20 other than that fish. Looking at all these posts, I think it's glaringly obvious that jigs catch big fish. I know I'm stating the obvious, but looks like at least 50% of the big fish were caught on jigs.
tdb
Regarding KT's comment on mounting his Vexilar on the front of his boat - how is this best done? I have my electronics in the back of my Lund Explorer which makes it difficult when fishing up front. Would love to hear how to mount my Vexilar up front...Also, what are people's favorite ways to fish jigs? So many big fish are caught on jigs but I rarely use them since I don't know the "ins and outs" of fishing them. What are the best times to use jigs and how do you fish them? Thanks. RumRiverRat
Sorry, I don't want to put the name of the lake on here......it's busy enough as it is.I will just say it's south of the cities and north of Albert Lea. Based on that most serious bass anglers probably could figure it out.
