I told the wife the other day that there was ice on the mud puddles out in our field and she said "can you ice fish in them"?? She knows I have it bad!! There are the times when you just can't fish---its really bad between seasons......

At one point about a month and a half ago my flip over shack was setup next to the boat in our two car garage. Needless to say the fishing addiciton kept anyone from parking in the garage. Now the boat has been winterized but the shack remains setup. I keep adding on new "upgrades" to pass the time until the ice is here.

Sometimes I'll sit out in the shack and drink beer and listen to music. Reminds me of ice fishing. The wife started getting suspicious and the other day burst open the garage door and asked if I was playing with myself in there, lol. Her words were a bit more vulgar though.

No honey, just getting anxious for some ice!

Related... sort of.

I constantly ask the wife if she wants to conceive in the ice house or in the boat...

I don't have any kids frown

My house is in my driveway and I am always in it doing something. Then I hear this from the wife " Do you have to be in that thing all the time now when there is no ice" "You know that you will be living in that thing when there is ice". I can have more fun sitting in it than in my own house.

I wish my flip over house was in the garage, heck I'd even turn on the Mr. Buddy Heater! Mine stuff is still packed away on the snowmobile trailer. bah.

Hah! I've actually been using my Mr. Heater in there for the past few weeks. I like to sit out there in my T-shirt. It's my man fort. Tonight I install the tow bar I made up copying the other thread posted a few weeks back. Crank up the radio, crack open a frosty, and get to work. Not much better way to spend a Friday night this time of year when your married with children. (Power tools, a beer or two, and ice fishing equipment) I'll probably end up with a little helper or two to boot.

I was thinking about filling the sink up with water and ice, throwing fish in there and watch the Vikes while I ice fish this Sunday... Please tell me I am not the only one.

Hey tsnade, you should tell everyone how you convinced your wife to fish as much as you want this year. It would show you dedication.

This is just to funny. My wife loves to see me wait for ice fishing. She is always catching mr pretending to catch fish with rods I am getting ready to fish with. She just shakes her head and tells me there are things around the house that need to be done....................Grrrrrrr!

My wife peeked over my shoulder while I was reading this and said "Oh wow, there are other people out there like you..."

Rock on! She said it makes her feel better that she's not married to a nutcase.

I'll have to have my wife read through this thread so she sees I'm not the only nutcase out there either, lol. grin

    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
