Last Week my dear OZZIE died in surgery from a severe chest infection. For over a year we've had lots of tests,x-rays and medications but he alway would get better for a few month and then get sick again. The Specialist tried to clean out his chest cavity but it was to late.He was only 3 and 1/2 years old and I'm so sad. Does any one have or know anyone who has a puupy from any of the 3 litters that might be breed and have pups in the coming months? It would be GREAT to get a new pup from one of OZZIE"s litter mates.I know FISHROGER has WILEY and I think MNPURPLE has Wren. ANY INFO WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. Thanks DrJ e-mail [email protected]

I have a pup from him I believe..is he from st. cloud area-sauk centre maybe?

I have a black male this is quite the dog. SUPER hunter! Has retrieved 80 some honkers, tons of ducks and many pheasants so far this season. He is now 2. Was retrieving snow geese at five months and such a nice dog and nice looking.

I would breed him and have thought of it but do not have a female lined up.

Hi Verg,Was your dog born in 2008 and Rooster Rousting Rebel was his dad? I think he might be from the 3rd breeding that produced such great dogs. You know how great these dogs are. Please let me know if you end up breeding him this winter.Enjoy your boy. Thanks DrJ

yes that is the breeding. I'll let you know but I'm picky with the quality of the female. If I am able to find a suitable female in the near future I'll let you know asap. I have others who mentioned they would like a pup from my Hutch. I do have to get a couple clearances first as well.

how big are/were your dogs? My hutch is 66 lbs. He is very short in stature but very stocky...looks like a sherman tank. Very square and pretty. Trying to remember but thought the mother was more leggy? Hutch could easily pass for a british lab.

sorry to hear about your dog. Probably from the same litter as my willy. Willy was neutered so hes not much help. I have had a lot of fun with willy, hes always full of it and ready to go. He sleeps in the back of the truck in case I try to slip away without him. It would be tough to lose him. Good luck with your next buddy.

I am the owner of Rooster Rousting Rebel. Rebel is almost 12 and retired from hunting. He has been the father of 91 pups to date!

I am really sorry to hear about your loss. Losing a dog is heart wrenching.

All the feedback that we have from the breedings between Libby and Rebel have been great. I have a yellow (almost white) male from the first breeding we did and he is an unbelievable dog too.

Both Rebel and Rocky are right around 70 lbs.

Good luck with your search for another puppy. That is always a fun and rewarding process.

Thanks for the reply's.I received the surgeons final report yesterday and he's sure it was a grassy awn(weed seed) that caused his death.I did everything we could for the past year and the x-ray didn't show much. From the x-rays the surgeon was pretty confident it was minor but since the anti-biotic din't clear it up,the decision was surgery. WALLEYE GUY do you know of any of Rebel's pups that might be breed. Out of 91 dogs there should be one that might be breed in the future.. He had some super pups as everyone I've talked to loves these dogs. Thanks DRJ

Dr. J. Thanks for the compliments on Rebels pups. However i am sure that Libby also had something to do with the success of those pups. She is a very good dog too.

So you are basically looking for a non-spayed female from both Libby and Rebel or just from Rebel? I did email Marty aka BushWhacker (the owner of Libby) today to make him aware of this thread. Over 20 of the pups were with Libby and Marty was the one doing the selling. One of the benefits of owning the male is that you don't need to sell the pups. I really didn't have much exposure to many of the pup buyers from Libby and Rebel because the dogs were born and kept in Sauk Centre and I live in Chanhassen. The owner of the female dog forms those relationships with the buyers. That being said I do have connections that I will explore but those will be from pups that were from Rebel and other females. Off the top of my head the females that went to guys I hunt and hang with are spayed I believe.

I will do some research however.

Sorry DJ, you will have memories and hopefully find comfort in another. Tough thing you went through there. As I thought those seeds need to be taken more serious. Our training group has known about them for years as many had trouble with the trial dogs, simply because we were out there more. I avoid Canada Rye and Foxtail like the plague. Everyone should do what is necessary to get rid of that stuff on CRP and the mixes they use it in. And anyone putting a planting in," Demand them to keep it out". It is sad to say but it will most likely take more dead dogs for them to figure it out. Hope you feel better soon.

PS we would like info from your vet and the seed samples if he found them. They are putting togeather a pile of evidence for the ones draging there feet about using these seeds in there mix. I am truely sorry you had to go through that.

FCspringer, I just received the surgeons report on the surgery. It doesn't sound like he found the seed with all the infection inside. I would be happy to E-mail you his final report. He's been a surgeon for over 30 yrs and said this was the worst he's seen. It's getting a little easier this week but if your research can help any other dogs that would be great. Guys give your dogs a hug tonight for me. Take Care DrJ.
