New Hip

Wish-I-Were-Fishn

Question

Had my left hip replaced 9 days ago and I'm already walking using only a cane! Unbelievable!

3 years ago I had my right hip replaced and it took me a good 4+ months to feel as good as I do with this new style done by Dr Heller. The guy is amazing.

Yes you aging outdoor types, there is hope and techniques to keep us doing what we love smile

I will be x-country skiing this winter after all!!

Amazing ain't it!! First knee replacement I had was a bugger. Second one on the other knee I got up one day about a week later and walked across the room without my crutches and my wife said "What are you doing!!?" I just forgot about them and walked away without them!! Ha!

I wouldn't push my luck with the cross-country skiing however! Ha! You are right, it is truly impressive the progress that has been made in this field. My knees DO ache a bit sometimes in the cold.

That's great to hear! I'm looking at having both knees done in the future. The one popped last night while on stand, and i can barely walk on the dumb thing this morning! cry Need it to snap back in place, but can't get it there yet, so no hunting this morning. Wife is giving that LOOK!!!Hmmmmmmm! blush

Wish-I-Were_fishin, did you have the anterior replacement done? Saw a specialist back in June and he says I will need a new one eventually. had a

cortisone shot in my hip in July and its been working great so far! Said to keep getting the shots till they quit working, then come see him.

There are only a handful of surgeons that do the anterior replacement in MN.

Sort of. This is a two incision procedure, one about 2-1/2" in the front and a smaller one in the rear. No muscles are cut and there are absolutely no movement restrictions afterwards.

I would highly recommend a consult with the surgeon that did mine (Dr Mark Heller) and compare against what you learned from your guy.

BTW, I had my 2 week post op today and I'm now starting to get by without my cane occasionally. smile

Unfreaking believable. What they have done for knee and hip replacement over the last 10 years is just amazing. Two years ago my then 65 year old neighbor had his knee replaced and he was snowblowing 2 weeks after surgery.

Yeah, and sounds like I might be doing the same!

That's amazing, my dad has had four hip replacements(each hip twice and he's only 56). From what I remember he was on crutches for a few weeks afterward but his last one was nine years ago. Nice to know that if he ever needs another one he should be looking at a little quicker recovery.
