polarsusd81
Stop the shock-and-awe story set to air on Channel 5 Thursday night. They are running previews for the story this morning and from the sounds of things, a couple uninformed or misleading locals are trying to get their voice out there against the stocking of Muskies in the 5 proposed lakes. We need to email the folks at Channel 5 and let them know how we feel about this. They need to get the facts before running a story like this, and from the looks of the previews, they didn't even bother to check the legitimacy of any of the story's guest's claims. We need to let our voice be heard. We need the public to know the truth, rather than a bunch of propaganda.I will be preparing my letter and sending it over this morning. Lets try to keep it civil, based on the scientific studies, and make sure the voice of the DNR's biologists are heard.Tom

DTro
Let me guess. The story is a reflection of that Outdoor News "ad" that we read a while back?.... Where can we let them know how we feel?

polarsusd81
Sorry I couldn't get back earlier, had to wait til lunch break. My email has been sent. I don't mind them running a story if all sides are represented fairly. The promo this morning did not lead anyone to believe those for the stocking and the biologists/representatives of the MN DNR were going to have any input. If it is basically just a different format for the ad in the ODN, muskies are once again going to be the black sheep in the eye of many.
Beast26
You're also failing to point out the fact that the teaser doesn't mention one specific species of fish that the DNR is stocking. I would be willing to wager that someone at the DNR, who works in the fisheries department, was interviewed for the segment. Do you think the DNR doesn't support your side of the issue or would you rather have a Muskies Inc representative give their unbiased opinion? Maybe they should ask some trout guys how they feel about how the limited MnDNR fish stocking dollars are spent?Cut back trout stocking, increase muskie stocking.Makes you wonder why there is a trout stamp and no muskie stamp? propster
Here we go again. If you last two had seen the teaser you'd have seen they were talking about muskie, and with a pretty good slant to the story, as is usually the case with our completely objective, non-sensationalized media. The byline uses phrases like: "is it right to stock a top predator" and "should people who don't even own property on a lake and out of staters decide what is stocked into our waters?" Muskiefool
I'm guessing its a huge percentage of anglers and people that want it as opposed to it so they have to keep working angles. One fish budget does not take away from the next get your facts straight. Again.

merkman
One fish budget does not take away from the next get your facts straight. Again. Funny how that works in your world.... There is only so much money in the pot. You spend it on X there is none left for Y. Allot like the lakes in MN There are only so many lbs of fish a lake will support. If you spend those lbs on adding species X there will be less of species Y. Manny will try to make you believe it don't work like that though. Want to use tax money to stock more muskies, support a muskies stamp to at least offset the costs a little bit instead of rolling out the Astroturf of your so called "grass roots" campaign. Stop treating the common fisherman like they are idiots and stop trying to control everything and everyone around any lake that does have muskies in it. My biggest beef is not with the muskies in the lakes it is with the small percentage of muskie proponents representing them. Just my two sense.
