9mm HighPoint Accuracy Issue

Recommended Posts

I have a new High Point 9mm. I feels nice but out of the box, with sights in the middle, the gun shoots 2 feet right at 10 yards. I have to adjust the rear sight all the way to the side to get it on target. When adjusted I can make tight groups at 10 yards. I don't think this is normal, but I am not a serious hand gun collector. Should I contact High Point or is there something I need to look at?? Could it be ammo? Thanks.

are you able to tap (notice the word TAP) the front sight or is it molded into the slide? If you are that far to the right and have adjusted the back sights as far as they can go, try tapping the front sight (there might be a set screw you have to loosen first) but then tap it to the right (I might be wrong on the direction, I am trying to remember as I stare at my fingers trying to remember which way it goes)

contact Hi-point, they have a lifetime warranty and are very good at keeping their customers happy. May be a cheap pistol thats not made for a bullseye league, but the accuracy shouldn't be that far off. Also, before doing anything do a search for a diagnostic handgun target, you can print them for free, it may give you an idea if it is in your shooting style.

I think its in your grip.

I shot a glock for 8 yrs. Then decided to switch to an FNH 5.7x28mm.

I was dead on accurate with a glock. ALL day. Every day.

But when I started shooting with the FNH, I was always low left.

After working on my grip and correcting the issues to match the weapon I was firing, and several hundred rounds of practice later. I can now say for certain that I am once again just as accurate as I was with the glock.

When it comes to handgun shooting. More often then not. The issue is with the grip. Thats why they always say to buy the handgun that feels right in your hand. GRIP is key.

Without visually seeing your grip its impossible to help try to diagnose any potential problems with it. Putting those tips and ideas into words is also difficult.

If your right handed, try using a little less trigger finger. The High Point has a slightly heavy trigger pull that can cause you to be "pulling" the sights down to the right with too much trigger finger.

You may also want to try some different ammunition. But I doubt that is the core of the problem.

Thanks guys. And Big A, I think you could be on to something with my grip and pull it to the right. I am not a very experienced hand gun shooter. I think I will really look into my grip and shoot another couple hundred rounds bfore sending it in. Thanks again guys.

Sounds like your onto something with the experience part. Practice is a good thing. I shoot thousands of rounds a year with my handgun. And I am always learning and always improving.

Take some lessons from a certified handgun instructor. If your an inexperienced handgun shooter that is a good thing. It means you dont have bad habits developed and are a "green" canvas.

Grip is the key to handgun shooting.

Good advice. I have been meaning to do this. Gotta put it on my list for the winter.
