Does anyone have any pics of a home 20# lp tank holder???

Have you ever used a milk crate to transport a 20lb. L.P.tank? Very tight fit with a flat secure surface. If you're able to bolt a milk crate to the front of your trailer and then secure the tank with a strap you would be set.

Not sure if it will do your new wheel house justice as far as appearance goes but it would work as a good way to secure a single 20lb. tank.

DSC03092.jpg i made our holders with some 1-1/2"x1/8" flat bar. rolled and welded a ring to fit inside the base ring on the tank and another split ring to fit around the tank half way or so up. then welded the bottom one to the frame of the house and the top one onto a peice of rectangular tube, but you could use whatever you have laying around. to clamp the tank in and keep it from moving around the top split ring has tabs bent out with holes for a 3/8" bolt to tighten the ring down on the tank, you could use a wing nut but im hoping that theives are lazy and wont have two 9/16" wrenches with them.

pretty easy to do if you have acces to a welder and a roller

these are made for two 30lb tanks but you can just change a few dimentions to work with a 20lb.

Eelpout08,

Then weld a single chain link to the angle iron that goes tank to tank, and a chain link welded to the wing nut. Then a master lock through the two, to keep an honest man honest.

My son and I woke to a really cold house a year or two ago because someone had stolen both of my propane tanks during the night while we were sleeping. This was the same day someone decided that drilling a hole 1' out and dead center of the door to our shack was a great spot for their tip-up, they drilled, set their tip-up and walked away to their truck about 400' away. My son gets up and doesn't say a word, peeks outside, walks outside and folds up their tip-up and sends it down the hole, waves at the guy and walks back in, sits down and starts fishing again and doesn't say a word. so I figured good enough, I don't think I need to say anything to the guy, he just got punked by an 11 year old. Sorry for the rambling story just reminiscing a little since I thought about it. LOL

I like that alot but i dont have a roller. I have a welder. I might try to build a box out of angle for the base of the tank to sit in, then run threaded rod up on each side then a piece of angle across the top with nuts to hold it down?

I would think that would work just fine also, you could also find something to form the straps around or put it in a vice or brake and put a lot of slight bends in it but that gets to be pain in the arse

    • Sorry to hear that Duff. Will give my GSP's an extra scratch behind the ear for you guys today
    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
