Help with Garmen Oregon 450

Whopper Stopper

Question

I bought a new Garmin Oregon 450 for hunting and fishing. I was wondering if you guys would help me with a couple of questions.

What method do I need to use to allow me to plan on the computer and use my Oregon on the lake? It seems to me that a chip in the GPS won’t show on the desktop by just connecting the cable. I must be missing something.

Also has anyone used the street map software in the Oregon? I was wondering how good this combination is compared to say a Nuvi. According to the explanation of the software it is suppose to give you spoken turn by turn directions. Just wondering how good it works.

Thanks for any help getting me on the right track!

What lake software do you have? If you have the Lakemaster chip you can not view it on the computer. It would be better to buy the CD version and then transfer the maps to the GPS. Then you would be able to view the lake maps on the computer. I have the CD version just for that fact. Plus, I put all my maps and other info on a SD card that is in the GPS. That way I don't have to change the chip to change the maps.

I don't think the Oregon has spoken directions. My Oregon 200 doesn't make any noise, but the higher end (like your 450) has beeps. I believe that it will beep when you are directed to turn.
