TallPaull
I live in the north metro and I am considering purchasing a travel trailer to put on a seasonal site. I am looking for a place that is on a decent fishing lake and is within 2.5 hours of the north metro. Does anyone have any suggestions on a place to research.Thank!Paul
Redlantern
Got kids? What age? Important things to look at. Some campgrounds are more kid friendly than others. Another question for you, what kind of fish do you like to go after?
TallPaull
I have a 7 year old boy that loves to fish, swim and play outside. As for fishing...... I enjoy panfishing and love catching walleye. Most of the time it is just a matter of catching anything with my son.Ultimately looking for a great family place (swimming, fishing and relaxing). steamman
There is a seasonal site on Lake Villard and also Lake Amelia. Have never been to the one at Lake Villard, but have a seasonal at Lake Amelia and love it. I have three kids in age from 18 to 8 and they have enough to do there. There is a swimming beach with a slide and floating platform. The swimming area is not that deep. You can catch walleye, pike, crappie, sunnies, bass, etc in the lake. It is very relaxing. If you want more iformation let me know.
pulleye16
From North metro this place might be just over 2.5 hours, probably just over 3 hours. But it is on Leech lake. Try New Leech Lake Campground near Bena. I think they are very resonable and the owners are great! $1700 to $1900 depanding on options and open until the END of Oct. It may be a little further but It's very peaceful and the fishing is great along with boating and just getting that "true" up-north experience. Coach1310
I would do my research and find the right resort BEFORE buying a camper. Some really nice places are HIGH DEMAND and have long waiting list. Some of these places, the only way to get in is to BUY a camper that is on a lot already there. There are so many variables, you really have to check them out. It may be tough now as most if not all are closed, but the internet can be a great tool to get a rough idea of what a place is like and what the rules are. woodsmanmn
Something to consider about buying a trailer that is already set up on a lot is that the extra things like a deck and shed are usually included. And you'll save by having an existing deck and shed vs. buying/building new ones. Also, the work it takes to get a place setup is done. You will be able to just move in and enjoy yourself. glenn57
NOT TO START AN ARGUMENT HERE, just from what i know from the campground we are at is this. they have a waiting list, when someone inquires about a lot, depends on where the lot is and if they kinda would "fit in" with there neighbors is considered alot. we've been there 11 years and only maybe 3 times have to owners allowed a camper to sell and stay. there are preferable lots and the most senior camper that wants to move gets first dibs. more often than not a "newbie" would have to have his own camper to bring in, and ocassionally theres a deck or shed that can change ownership.
