tanman
how effective would a wind powered mojo duck be on a non windy day? do you think it might still be an advantage even tho the wings would not be spinning?has anyone used these before?how well do they work hom much wind is needed to move the wings? Gordie
I have had decent luck with it but on non windy days it doesnt get put out. I have had more ducks flare than commit if you wanna look it that way.I like to use it when their is a good wind blowing when the wind is less it always seems to only spin one wing or it will just sit not spinning. I probally will not even take out of the bag this year.
Farley
I'm not sure of the exact MPH, but you do need a steady wind to get the wings to spin. I want to say for it to work like a battery powered spinning wing you'll want at least 10-15 mph. It will rotate by itself into the wind somewhat, but dont expect too much from it. Getting it level I'm sure helps along with keeping the rod that goes through the wings clean. What happens the most to mine is one wing will spin and the other will not. Get the boat out to go fix it and all the sudden it starts spinning both wings, hide the boat again and one wing spins. Fussy SOB. A buddy of mine had to chase his accross the lake on a really windy day, the thing was spinning so fast it just picked up off the stand and started tumbling accross the water. prob 40 mph winds that day though. pureinsanity
buy one of these instead
Lunker
I have never used the cloth type like pureinsanity posted but the wind spinning wing decoys cause me more frustration than anything. Mine ended up in the garbage can. Worthless.
Surface Tension
You'll need a lot of constant wind. Best experience I've had with them is they will spin when a big gust comes along. They don't always point into the wind like they should so you get a lot of one wing spinning, I wouldn't recommend them.
nate larson
I have tried a few and the only decent one I have found is the Winduk. Both wings spin on a joined ball bearing axle which seems to help a lot. You still need at least a 10mph breeze though.

Superduty
I have tried them and not had a lot of success with any of the various brands. I think they would work field hunting. Have seen them in action on the vortex system that spins two spinning wing decoys in a circle. But that system makes it motorized and therefore illegal during the first part of the MN season. The problem with using a wind powered decoy when hunting water is ducks usually like to sit OUT OF THE WIND on the water!
TrophyEyes
I just bought one to take out to ND for Field hunting. I am planning on putting a little WD40 on it before I go. I think the flatness of ND and in the fields it will work ok. We are also bringing 2 battery powered ones just in case.
