Chipmunk in a maple

I caught this little guy raiding the maple on Friday, I've never seen anything actually eat those maple helicopter seeds before.

Thanks everyone! Vicki those shots were taken with a Nikon D300s and Sigma 150-500mm lens.

Shawn, I'm not 100% positive on the species, we think it's a Townsend Chipmunk, western Washington seems to be their typical range.

They are fun to watch, unfortunately the woods around the house are so thick up here that I rarely see them or any squirrls - they don't feel any need to come out near the house most of the time. I'm thinking about bribing them with an easy to reach bird feeder (one the Jays won't raid!). smile

I took a short video of it too, very tough to hold still at 500mm!!!
