How do you get a PRIM map? Off the HSOforum?

I'm having troubles getting on thier site today but look under maps...or google "mn dnr prim".

PRIM=Public Recreation Information Maps. Public Recreation Information Maps (PRIM) bring together the most up-to-date information on federal, state and county lands and their recreational facilities. They make it easier to find that unique spot for your outdoor enjoyment. Each map displays parks, forests, scientific & natural areas, waterfowl production areas and wildlife management areas. In addition, each map shows facilities such as: state trails, fishing piers, campgrounds, historic sites...and more.

Not sure if it has tax forfeit land though...that absulte best would be a county plat book!

got it: http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/maps/prim.html

The MNTRAX product includes a microSD card and an SD adapter. All Garmins take either of these two card types so you are set no matter what size card your Garmin takes. The MNTRAX 2010 version does include Tax Forfeit Land in Minnesota along with

1200+ Lakes with 5’ Contours:

Boat Ramps

Scientific and Natural Areas (SNA)

Wildlife Management Areas (WMA)

I have a quick question: how up-to-date are the MNTRAX products? I see they are from 2009, so a lot can change in a year. For example, the PLOTS land in North Dakota is in an almost constant state of flux. Are there automatic downloads for updates, or eventually do you have to purchase an "updated" version?

TylerS,

The 2009 date shown on the outdoor page is just due to an old image on the Outdoor Store. I can assure you the products for all the TRAX maps including MNTRAX and NDTRAX are 2010 versions. These versions have been available since March.

The MNTRAX product is typically updated in March. MN doesn't change nearly as often as ND as you mentioned with PLOTS land always in a state of flux. ND is updated once in the spring usually in late February and once in the fall usually around mid-August which is already available.

For ND, any person who purchased NDTRAX 2010, when the fall 2010 update was released, they could update for free. However, when 2011 comes out, there would be a $20 fee to update to 2011. It is not required but highly recommended. Updates can include land changes as well as feature additions. Updates are completed by sending the product back. Turnaround is very quick and easy usually 1 week or less.

It is a good idea to update once per year. I try to keep the update price as low as possibe ($20) so people don't try to stretch it out too long. As the product will be updated traditionally each Spring, I would recommend getting into a habit of sending it in late spring, early summer maybe around April each year. For ND, I would recommend mid-August as this is when I do my final PLOTS update for the year.

Acemac, I am always looking for options for additional devices. In many of the places my customers hunt and fish, there is no cell service. I realize some of the phones now do have built in GPS devices as well, but the main sportsmen market is still stand-alone GPS driven. Droids, Blackberries, and iphones are all potential future options but for now Garmin, Lowrance and the PC with Google Earth are the main delivery methods.

I get great cell service at home and work. those are the two places where I plan my trips.

I get that you may think the best market is in the GPS's but I challenge you to just go check out the App store one time. you would instantly go from being known in a select group of midwesterners to being introduced into a market of millons of people that buy just about anything in the app store.

when I bought my navonics lake maps on the app store I figured it would be just for novelty a "cool" thing to have. I always figured they will never work when I need them, but it has changed how i fish and they are spot on and very reiliable.

The best thing I see about this market is that it does not cost you anything when you sell a product it trully is pure profit after you pay for the code or what ever is neede to create a app.

acemac, I appreciate the dialog as the only way a TRAX map gets better is by user feedback. I will continue to evaluate all the options for delivering maps. The other thing to keep in mine is drawing a few lake contours and points of interest is very different than the data intensive information found on a TRAX map. Thanks for the feedback and interest. You can always watch the Kirsch's Outdoor Products HSOforum and facebook page to see what changes are happening with the product.

just ignore me... LOL I can promiss you that every time some one brings up your chips I will make a comment about the iphone so your better off just ingnoring me.

I will still be here when it makes sense for your biz model to go to the app world. Untill then you will have to put up with constant reminders.
