Seasonal RV Parks

Looking to relocate our trailer to a lake lot. I have talked to quite a few resort owners recently and most of them do not allow fall / winter usage. Actually most of them close up after Oct 1st?

Is this the norm? Or have I just been looking at the wrong places?

Any input appreciated, thanks

Our resort, Timberwoods Resort in Annandale, closes due to water lines being closed up so they don't freeze. They also shut down electric to the sites. We could get to our units but roads are not plowed, no water ot power etc. I usually just go check on it once or twice a winter.

Most of the places that are year round are the associated kind of thing, where you purchase the lot and then pay a yearly association fee. The only one I can think of off the top of my head is Sherwood forest up by Mille Lacs. It's not right on the water but still a darn nice place. They have a web site just do a serch.

The season site that I am at will allow you to use your camper during the fall/winter months but you have to provide your own water and electricity. The water and electricity gets turned off after the first weekend in October.

They will allow you to store your camper at your site during the winter months for a fee.

I would question not allow your camper on the site during the fall/ winters months for a fee. If you built a deck it can be a pain pulling your camper in and out.

At our resort in Lindstrom the water is turned off Oct 15 as is the public bathroom/shower house, the store/bait closed up, but we got elec power all year and I keep my portable there fish all winter some people come stick out a night or two with a portable toilet and carry water in, fire up the furnace. etc.

We are in Mille Lacs Island Resort. Water is of mid of Oct but shower house is open year round. Roads are plowed and elect is on all year. Pay about $2000 a year and don't pay for anything else except propane, and don't have to cut grass. Check it out it is a great place, just outside of Whakon, MN.

Thanks for the info. I understand the water being off and if they don't want to plow that's fine. But the majority of places I've talked to don't even want you at the trailer after October period. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me, especially if I was willing to bring my own snowblower, carry in a portable toilet, water, ect.

But I'm sure each resort owner has their reasons

At Fisher's Resort on Mille Lacs we allow seasonal rv use after the water is shut down. We usually have the shower house heated until the second weekend of deer hunting. You can use the site until we get too much snow to plow. The cabins are also available for rent for the deer season.

Our resort, which is on mille lacs, we are allowed to be there in the fall/winter although we have to pay extra for elect. The water is turned off but they will plow a road to your trailer if need be. The bar/restaurant is open year around for showers, food, beer, ect....

would think most of those reasons have to do with insurance and taxes....being a seasonal resort offers substantial reductions over being year round. while some are brave enough to embrace the elements, not many other people are...and to pay all the extra for a few, simply does not make economic sense. please do not misunderstand me, i would be in the crazy few catagory, and am mildly depressed that i only have a few weeks left at the lake, but do understand the position the resort owners are put in.

i would have to say mille lacs island resort for sure. can use electric all year, plowed roads, if you call ahead they will plow your site but your on your own for shoveling. resort has showers and bathroom all year open. electric is included in yearly fee. can ride wheeler or sled right from your door onto mille lacs. I heat mine up with furnace then just use electric heat to keep it warm and have the fireplace and sattelite tv hooked up. Your choice but i have seen no other resorts that allow what this one does.or that caters to winter goers.

hardboy your in mille lacs island also? I wonder If we have met? We are in the new area. We may have to try to do some fishing this winter. Maybe you can teach me something. I could some pointers. If you don't remember I am the one you suggested using a kid sled on the atv.

    • Sorry to hear that Duff. Will give my GSP's an extra scratch behind the ear for you guys today
    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
