upnorth
Has anyone stayed at either of these campgrounds. We are planning on doing some camping on the Lake Superior North Shore at the end of the month and all the State Parks reserved sites are booked solid and don't want to rely on hopes that one may have a non reserved site open. We have a 28 foot 5th wheel so smaller tent type sites are out. We don't need any amenities to speak of, just a decent site large enough to park the thing and have a campfire in the evening. reinhard1
i know of a few campgrounds i could suggest in the finland area. but because of the size of your camper i dont want to give you information that is not accurate. to give you information now i would call 218-353-7591, that is the number for the finland dnr. they have been always helpfull to me if i want an update on a lake up there and i'm sure they know about the campgrounds. i have fished that area [finland isabella] for over 40 years and it has some of the best variety of game fish concentrated together along with wildlife and scenery i know of in mn. the campground i stay mostly at while up there is ninemile. it's nice with water and pit toilets. is do know some of the campsites have enought room for my truck and a 18 1/2 ft. crestliner. ninemile is off county rd 7 from finland. good luck. mixxedbagg
I've camped at Finland and the sites are pretty much the same size as your typical state park sites, so I think the RV would be fine.
upnorth
Thanks!!! That is what we were hoping to hear
mixxedbagg
Upnorth,Don't forget about the SNF campsites. All of the fee and rustic (my favorites) campgrounds that I have been to have had room for a camper. There's a great printer-friendly list and map at this address:http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprdb5194284.pdf
upnorth
We have been to a few of those campgrounds. But that is a very nice list tho, thanks
woodsmanmn
I go to both regularly. About 1/3 of them I would consider tent only sites. With 60+ sites between the two campgrounds, I'm sure you'll find a site that works for you. BTW, the artesian well at eckebek is the best, just turn on the faucet for ice cold fresh water. upnorth
We stayed at Eckbeck last weekend. Actually got one of the sites on the River. Yep most where Tent only, but about 1/2 dozen that were RV friendly. We were out viewing fall colors and checked out the Finland campground too, nice, a little nicer than Eckbeck. Definitely and option instead of the State parks up that way. We will be staying there again for sure.
woodsmanmn
The site on the river at Eckebek with the big pines is our favorite. Heading up there on 10/15 for a three day weekend. Last camping trip of the year. Then the camper goes under the lean-to for the winter.
upnorth
Yeah seen that one but it was taken so we took the one that is a little more open. Still nice.
woodsmanmn
Heading up to Finland today for a three day weekend. Let the grouse beware!
JBMasterAngler
Good luck! We didn't see any last weekend, although we didn't look very hard either.
woodsmanmn
Got our favorite site in the big pines on the river at Eckebek. The temps were good, but the grouse hunting suffered from the windy days. Only grouse seen was by the check in station on a walk around the campground Monday morning. Next weekend the camper goes under the lean to for the winter.
upnorth
Yep kinda of a sad thing winterizing the RV last night, but then that signals Ice Fishing season is getting close.
