Cooter
Any reviews? Is the manual lever engagement easy to get used to? How does it bring in the big doubles?
50inchpig
thumbs up from this guy. takes about 3 casts to get used to engaging the reel, pulls 10s and 13s fine and throws everything else in my box too. probably will get another one next time i need another reel. Cooter
So no timing problems to get those blades spinning soon as they hit the water? What are they comparable to size wise? I'm a reel palmer.
HugoBox
Side by side they're not much bigger than a Calcutta. I was leery of flipping the lever but it's pretty second nature.
50inchpig
no timing problems. thumb it, flip it, reel it
RuKiddingMe
Love the reel I have a 20 and a 30, same reel just the 30 is wider. Throws everything in my box and makes the dbl 10's 12's 13's a lot easier. They aren't a "burning" reel but you can kick'em up pretty good for short bursts. One nagging issue with them is the clutch spring on the casting lever it fatigues/breaks, very easy fix, pop the cover off and put a new on, but you must order the new springs on the net, no place local carries them. I have yet to break one but I just bought a half dozen as a just in case, because they are my main reels.matt
muskieboy46
So far I like mine!
JimBuck
I own a size 20 and it is one of my main reels. Throws just about everything and I like the size. It seems to balance nicely on my Okuma EVX 9'3". For the money, it's tough to beat a Saltist 20.
mazzilin19
Bought one this year, and it is easier than the Calcutta to retrive and palm. It took a little time to get used to, but once you get the hang of it you can go for a long time. I give it a thumbs up.
aroep
Has anyone used the size 40 with the 4.9:1 gear ratio, if so what are your thoughts? I was wondering if the size 20 will hold up to pounders and large bucktails, or if I should go with the size 40 instead? Thanks.
RuKiddingMe
The 20 will fine for larger bucktails and pounders, I would stay away from the 40, the size is ridiculously large and only advantage gained would be speed. If speed is what you are looking for go with a Saltist 30th non-levelwind or a better yet the kitty kats meow the Trinidad 16N.
aroep
Sounds good, thanks again for the input.
