Jig rod action

Recommended Posts

I've been using a 7'2'' MH Fast action rod for most of my jigs (except when Im in thick slop) and I've been struggling a little with hook sets and havent been driving it home like I should be. I seen a 7'0'' MH Xtra Fast action rod that I really like and think that might help me out as it should load into the backbone of the rod much sooner.

My question is,

1. how many of you guys use rods with Xtra Fast actions?

2. what applications do you use them in?

3. and how do you like them?

I have 3 rods that are extra fast action, all are MH power. 69 Zillion, 68 Cumara and a GLX 803. I'm really starting to like the XF action rods, it definitely gives you a little extra 'pop' when driving a hook home. It also makes my pitching just a little more accurate.

I use mine for Jigs, weightless T-rigged worms/beavers and weighted t-rigged creature baits in the thick stuff.

I think if you make the switch on your jig rod to an XF action you'll love it.

I use heavy/fast action for all my jig rods. Loomis IMX 844. I think a big part of the problem is your hook set. Can you give any details on your set?

A 7' MH fast action should still get the job done with any jig under 1/2 oz.
