2nd Marriage..ideas

Well yesterday was our special day... we rented a cabin at Mantrap lodge which is located close to Park Rapids. Our cabin had space for 20 people to sleep, we had 15 sleeping. We headed up on Thursday and on Friday most people came up and spent the day together. Our ceremony was on Saturday around noon. It was fun... the weather didn't cooperate with us but Mantrap opened up the lodge and empted it our for us to have the ceremony there... it was very special. We cooked prime rib as the ceremony was going, augrat potatos, and salad. I had one of my customers make her specialty cookies. It all went very well. Our honeymoon is in June on blackduck.... Ideas for the blackduck area.. don't know much... Don't know how to post a picture. eek

Congratulations to you and your new husband basslady! I'm sure it was a great day, even if the weather didn't cooperate fully.

Two things you might want to check out near Blackduck if you're interested:

The Lost 40 (actually more than 40 acres) is a piece of old-growth forest that was mapped as part of a lake during the original survey of that area, so it never got logged off. It's pretty spectacular. I think it's actually part of Chippewa National Forest. If you google Lost 40, you can learn more about it.

Camp Rabideau was a CCC camp that is considered one of the best-preserved camps in the nation. My grandpa served there and he says that the buildings are basically the same, though a little nicer and not in quite the right spots. There's also some information on the camp if you google it.

Congratulations to both of you!

A belated congratulations Basslady, it sounds like the wedding I wish I had had! I got married the day after Christmas and it was bitterly cold and snowing and I ended up sick the whole week after. Not to mention that both of us had put in 12 hour days from Dec 1st till the 24th ( we worked at the post office then). I hope you have a great time on your honeymoon.

Thank you for all the ideas. We are thinking on hiring a guide for 1/2 day of fishing.

Have only been out fishing a couple of times so far this summer. Things just keep popping up that get in the way of going out fishing.

There's some beautiful little spots down in SE minnesota on some of those trout streams. Get your hands on some waders, you can maybe borrow a few of the members on here (I'd let you use mine), and have the wedding party wade out in front of a little water fall, and get married waste deep. It would make some great pictures. If you like the idea, I can think of a couple spots in the Lanesboro area. It would make for nice pictures too.

Plan B. There's some pretty spots off the willow river in the hudson area. I think it's called trout brook.

Taylors falls would provide some good photo ops.

Rent a launch on Mille Lacs, and get married on that.

There's no reason you can't make the reception pot luck. Hell, half the time the food is better that way anyway. Nothing wrong with a good old fashion BBQ. By a pig and roast it if you want.

I suppose with your theme, it ought to be a fish fry. On your gift registry, you just tell everyone to bring some fillets and something to pass, to the fish fry.

IF you have any friends that work for 3M, tartan park has a pretty nice pavilion.

The namekagon, that dumps into the St.Croix river, is very scenic. You could all rent some canoes and float down from Hayward WI. They have a service that will bring you back to the beginning. There are free campsites along the way with fire pits and picnic tables.

We got married at Aamodts Apple Orchard, but I don't think they rent it out any more. Besides, that wouldn't be all that cheap. But it was neat.

I guess it would help us to know the size of your wedding party, and how many invites there will likely be. I doesn't make sense to send you to the BWCA if we're talking about 150 people.

Don't make any plans with a state park. They might not be open.
