Think you've seen it all???

Driving home from the lake this afternoon, and what do I come upon??

I red Volkswagon Jetta. Pretty special in itself, but these folks have themselves a 4 wheeler. Nice wheeler I might add, full size, prob somewhere in the 300-350 cc range...and they are taking it somewhere to ride I would imagine...after all, it is a nice day.

But the 4 wheeler is STRAPPED TO THE TOP of the JETTA!!!

Somehow they got it up there, drove it up on the top of the car...and strapped her down.

Well I'll be....I should have known I would see something of this sorts when 45 miles earlier I had to slam on the brakes because a Porcupine was crossing the road.

What a day....

Fishing was good...boated over 75 Crappies last night...C&R of course. smile.gif

UJ,
Those two showed up at the campground we were at on Friday nite - it was unbelievable. He said he passed 5 or 6 state patrols and no one stopped him. They loaded it by placing the front tires over the spoiler on the back and just rolled it up on top. It was the center of attention for awhile until he learned he couldnt ride it through the campground had to load it up in someones pickup to take it to the trail. There is a sad spot to this story - He blew the motor up after about 30 minutes of riding on Saturday no one had parts for him so his wheeling was done for the weekend. What a bumber. I do believe that Jetta was overweight both passengers were well over 6' tall. It will be a great memory for a while.
Keep Smiling.

That's a pretty stupid thing to do. If you put that much weight on top of a relatively small car that isn't wide, you raise the center of gravity enough that you could easily tip it and roll in the slightest accident or even sharp turn.

Maybe that's why the state partrol didn't stop them and give them a ticket. They figured that if they roled the car and destoryed the 4 wheeler and car they would learn something.

Now there's the kind of people I cannot stand. Not only are they putting themselves at risk of serious injury, but everyone else that drives on public roads! I can't image how you can safely strap an ATV to the top of a car. If they hit the brakes hard, oh Nellie!!!!

Get a trailer!

They were doing 45 mph. and when I went to pass, the gentleman whom I will call "sir" decided to step on the gas.

He made about 65 mph before I could get around him, as I had my boat in tow and passing takes some distance.

It takes all kinds.......

Yep. Plenty of them. I remeber once when I was behind a Semi doing 40 in a 55 two lane divided highway. I'm pulling my boat, but since this guy is going so slow I decide to try to pass him. The Semi sees me and decides to gun it when I get alongside him, making it hard for me to pass as another truck starts heading at us straight on. Because I'm tralering a boat I can't just slam on the brakes and swerve in back behind him, nor had the room anymore to pass him, so I had to pull off to the opposing Shoulder. What an a**hole. You would think Semis would have respect for other traliering vehicles.. but I somehow must have "challenged" his authority on the road or something...

Here's one for ya.

I was at the beach one year with my kids and my mom and dad. The lifeguards called a safety break and everyone had to get out of the water. I was sitting next to my dad at the edge of the water, looking out at the lake, when all of a sudden we heard the sound of a larger outboard motor being started out of the water. We looked over at this dock and this guy and his family had pushed a boat away from the dock and started the boat with the outboard raised. This guy must have either borrowed this boat or just bought it and until that moment, he must have never seen a boat before. After a few seconds of running the motor out of the water he shut it off. The wind was blowing his boat into the swimming area and the lifeguards got on the bullhorns and told the guy to move his boat. What he did next made my father and I just sit with our jaws dropped. The guy restarted his outboard still out of the water, and put it full throttle OUT OF THE WATER. The boat would not move, go figure, so a passenger got out the ore and started to paddle the boat with the motor running wide open OUT OF THE WATER. The driver was looking at the motor with the look like he could not understand why the boat won't move. Someone on the boat finally figured out that the motor should be in the water and the got it to work. That was something I will never forget.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
