Calcutta 400 TE LJV

Hoping it is a fluke, but today the new reel failed already......bulging 10's and 13's no problem......reel locked up on cast , now the handle free spins forward, but nothing happens. Pretty weak for a reel with a 450 retail value. Whats my best bet here? any ideas? first time using it....reel was brand new. Ordered online, can not send back probably.

I bought a new LVJ this year and have less than 20 hours on it and the handle threads stripped and now the handle is loose...a search for my sales receipt was unsuccessful but I have the original box and paper work and etc. so I'm hoping Joe's will exchange it or at least print me a new receipt so I can send the reel into Shimano. I checked and the LVJ is part of the Platinum service plan so the turnaround time on repairs is 48 hrs.

20 hours I would have excepted, but 20 min was all I got.....hope this turns around for the both of us....reel bulged double 13's like a champ. How do you like yours? Regular 400 TE is my next investment for a backup smile When mine broke I had to get out the Revo Toro which I used think kicked arse till I retrieved my first cast with the LJV

I have a couple TEs which I love but the LVJ is at another level with the additional BB and power handle, I love the reel. You should check out the Shimano Conquest. It is a TE on steriods! They are made in Japan and I believe only sold commercially over there -- check them out on HSO-Classifieds or the Shimano HSOforum, they're sweet!

Been on hold with Shimano for an hour now......must be a lot of broken reels. I will look into the conquest, unless I write of Shimano for not answering the phone....ha ha any Shimano reps on the boards? Randy angel was my neighbor growing up but I think he is done with them now.

I just brought my reel into Joe's Sporting Goods where I purchased it and they could not exchange the reel because they don't typically carry it (it was a rep model) but were extremely helpful (as always) in contacting their Shimano rep and expediting it for repairs, without cost, to California.

Got through to shimano after about ten trys and two hours on hold, and once I got to a human, she was very helpful. I have a box on the way to send it in, and she said they have a 48 hour turn around once they recieve it. All in all I guess it is covered, but still frustrating to have that new shiney setup break right away after showing it off, then to top it off had to fish the old rod the rest of the day. smile UGH

Smeese, did she give you an idea what may be the problem? Probably not without looking at it, but if you would, please let us know when you get it back what turned out to be the problem. Might spare one of us from having to send it in if the same thing happens in the future. Maybe when you send it in ask them upon its return to include an explanation of what likely happened and what was the fix. Thanks

Had a gentleman call me from Shimano today, and a couple times I had asked about doing anything to please a dissatisfied customer, and each time he rerouted our conversation to the shipping process to get the reel fixed. Either way as long as I get it fixed I am happy, but the customer service for Shimano is not exactly up to par on representative availability, and returning messages. Lots of long times on hold and people that did not know what to do about the problem. The guy that called me today was a supervisor that I had requested call me back. At least he did. He said it will come with a repair report.....so I will let you know.

Shimano needs to increase their customer service, seny out Mon and they got it on Wednesday, then finally called yesterday (friday)saying it would hopefully be done next week. Some 48 hour fix.....not real impressed, along with the fact that they avoided the subject everytime I brought up anything about perks for people with brand new stuff that breaks right away. Worth a try, you would think they could send a guy a tshirt or something. Ha ha ha Hopefully soon it will return

2 week later, got it back, I might say I was impressed that the shipping slips they sent me to send it in were 2 day shipping.....but when they sent it back it came ground and took 6 days so that kind of kills their so called platinum service. Working now, however they sent nothing with the reel as far as what went wrong, even though they said they would. Nightmare is over.

Update.....made it back to my once a month trip to french, fished for a few hours and this dang thing broke again, same thing, Reel handle spins but does not engage to take in line. Back to Shimano it goes.....not looking good for the top model Calcutta in my opinion. Beyond mad this time. Should have got two revo toros. frown

Sorry to hear about your reel problems! I just got a Revo and love it! Although I am worried about it not having the reeling power or it going out like you're saying!! You gotta make sure your not grinding the gears when your casting and retrieving! Always stop the line from going out before clicking it in/reeling... I have experienced reels going out from this before... idk what happens with yours but it seems you have terrible luck!

I am sure it is not user error, I was leaning more on Karma. Ha Ha.....just got off the phone with shimano, talked with the same guy last time that did not give a dang, this time he must have been going home for the day or something because he was like.....well this is ridiculous I will send out a new one first thing in the morning. For once I can say YAY Shimano!!!!!! Hope this one works longer smile

It just goes to show, there's a possible lemon even on good stuff. I'm sure Cadillacs have had their share as well, though probably less than Chevy! Funny, my LJV has been nothing but a dream and it's all I throw now. The Toro I had, which was working fine and I sold it to a buddy, it went out on him within 2 weeks and he had to send it in. No way can anyone say this is always good or that is always bad.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
