Nate McVey
HI all, I took some time last week to head to the UP to help my parents pack up their house and also got a little fishing in with a buddy of mine. We hit a 10 ft. wide creek looking for some Brookies, one that had produced a 15" just a few days before. I had my fly rod and my buddy had his spinning rod with a panther martin and we started hitting some holes. After a couple holes that produced some small brookies, I tied on a bunny leach and and cast against the far bank and slowly started stripping it in. On the 3rd strip it was absolutely destroyed by something heavy. I chose to go with the 4 wt (which in this moment I thought was a mistake) and he really worked that rod. A couple minutes later he was in my hands, we took some quick measurements and photos and back he went. Here is the picture of my buddy's from a few days before. It's hard to believe that this hole held these two fish.....
Scudly
Good looking fish. Spring creek or freestone? Any brown too or just brookies?
Muskie456
I'm curious why I see some fly guys put thier rod in thier mouth for the picture. Is a custom built rod or something? Just wondering i really don't see it anywhere else in the fishing world. Then again thier really aren't that many guys making thier own muskie rods. Not sure why the other fly guys do it, but mine came from fishing in wide CO rivers and flats in Mexico and FL. There's not a lot of places to set your rod in those situations so that just seems to be the most logical spot to keep it when you're trying to CPR fish. Since then, it's just become habit. Mine tends to find my left armpit when taking off fish, I guess it's my third hand.
so haaad
By the way Shiner, great brookies. Have you ever read any of Robert Traver's (John Voelker) books on flyfishing for brookies in the U.P.? Your first picture reminds me of what "Frenchman's Pond" must be like.

Jerry
Beautiful brookies, especially the first one. I grew up in the UP and have not managed to break the 14" mark yet.
