0 eelpout#1
I think you need look no farther than the first two or three pages of posts in the Equipment-Expert forum. If you read all the posts about the 522, you will see that most people love their 522 unit WHEN IT WORKS. There is a real ongoing problem with the transducer, software version, flashing non-real numbers when encountering a soft bottom or weedy situation. That said, I would caution you to not spend full face value for the 522 unit, as you will probably be replacing $70 transducers on a regular basis. I own one and have had the mentioned problems. Yesterday I unhooked the sonar part of the unit and dug my old Eagle out to use as a depth finder. I will continue to use the 522 as my GPS plotter. 0 Cicada
Get on the water and test it before you pay for it. I just solved my problems. Like eelpout#1 said, all you need to do is read previous posts on these pages.

In 3 years, never once did I need to replace a transducer. I did have to load a new program into the unit and that was all that was needed. 0 ozzie
I like mine but I do lose contact with the bottom when going full speed (17mph) and it freezes up at times when in the weeds but overall it is a decent unit....could be better could be worse....the only thing that stings is the $500 I paid for a "decent" graph!!
