We took a mini vacation to La Crosse. We had basically a little over 1 day there, but we visited a lot of parks.

This was the most intense rainbow, with it's double, I think I had ever seen. Of course, by the time I took the shot, the colors had faded some. A couple miles further, we actually saw "the end of the rainbow" in the trees by the road. By the time I jumped out and snapped the shutter, it was gone. I was shocked when I looked at the LCD. I didn't realize how fast it had disappeared. That was quite disappointing, but I was still thrilled by the sight. It didn't give me near enough time to find the pot of gold. frown

Green herons sure must not be popular. I remember last year I posted a couple shots of a green heron and hardly got a comment. Personally, I think they're kinda cute in a weird sort of way. The herons are my faves of the series. It's quite amazing how people differ on their likes and dislikes. It makes the world interesting I guess. grin

The groundhog was my first, as was the black squirrel. I guess it's the green gunk that makes the rat a little unique. But, I sure wouldn't want the photo on my wall. wink

I love the Wisconsin marmot shot! I also enjoy the green heron images, I would love to spend lots of quality time with this species, especially at this time of year when they are in such peak plumage like this one, but I rarely get to in this neck of the woods.

That rainbow shot is great.

Of course it's a marmot. That was my first thought when I saw it, because I have seen them in Alaska but not around here. Then I forgot about it and emailed the photos to a friend and he came back with groundhog. Thanks for setting me straight, Shawn.

There were actually 4 of them playing together in the park. Evidentally, they're some young'uns.

I call them ground hogs all the time, or wood chucks, or ###### little ####s, when they go to town on my wife's garden smile I just like to whip out the "marmot" lingo because I recently learned that is what they are smile
