chasineyes
Does anyone have any tips or is it even possible to cook a pizza on a open fire? Going camping this weekend and would like to find a "method" for doing this. Thanks for the tips!!
no bait nate
using a dutch oven works awesome, we'll usually lay crust on the bottom, load it with sauce, cheese and toppings, then lay another crust on top and load it up again. with the dutch oven just place it over some coals and then close the lid and pile some coals on top again, works great
Ralph Wiggum
I throw my pizza stone on my Weber charcoal grill. It would work over a fire, too, if you have a grate.

srfishin15
You can always stick a couple pieces of bread, cheese, some pepperoni and some pizza sauce in a pie fry
zamboni
I agree with SR, get a Romes Pie Iron and you can make pizzas, pie, grilled cheese about anything in them. They are pretty cool. One word of advice, get a Romes, they are cast iron. The pie irons at discount stores are aluminum and crack or will put oxidization into your food
BorderView
I cook pizza on the grill at home on an unglazed 18" stone tile from Home depot. Works great on the grill. Can't imagine it not working on a cooking grate over an open fire. In fact, I'm buying another to add to my camping set up. Thanks for the idea. scott b
We used to do frozen pizzas by using a tri-pod/aluminum foil. Cover the grate with foil. Place pizza in center. Cut holes in foil around the pizza. Make a dome with more foil over the top of the pizza and grate. This allows hot air to cook the top of the pizza. (Think pop corn). Keep the pizza moving by swinging around to create an even cooking temp. Done it a dozen times and this was the best result. Nothing beats an open fire pizza. Delicious! Be sure to do it the first night as the pizza tends to get soggy after a day or two in the cooler.
