Where to find bullheads?

I had a bullhead pond for about three years that I always got my bait from, I went back to this pond a few days ago and found that it had froze out over the winter. While standing on the shore of that little pond I was starting to think of other places I could find some cat bait! I have tried a few small run off ponds and mud bottom lakes with small jigs and worms in the metro only to come up dry! Now, I don't know if everyone keeps their bait ponds a secret or if it is something that is talked about. But I would really appreciate just a point in the right direction on where to go next, because I am feeling the need for some little black stingers!

Thanks, Kruger

We caught pails full as kids at Darts Park both above and below the dam, in Owatonna. May be able to restock your pond since we caught them in all sizes laugh I have never looked up regulations on transplanting bull heads though.

Good luck.

i thought transplanting any fish was illegal but you should read up on it if you were thinking about doing it

Bullheads under 7" are considered minnows, which can be transported live. The regs book states that you cannot take bait from infested waters and use them elsewhere. You can take bait from infested waters if the bait is to be used from the water in which they were taken.

Find the most inconspicuous looking runoff pond or man made pond and you will be surprised how many of them have Bullheads. The only problem for me is that all the perfect sized small ponds with Bullheads are surrounded by multi-million dollar housing developments and that's why it is so hard for me to get bait.

theres no shame in my game, one of my ponds is in a wealthy community, the kids that get off the school bus talked to me once to see what the heck i was catching, now they wave and say " HELLO CRAZY CATFISH GUY" i think its funny, People are so non-confrontaional that they wont bother a crazy guy with a pail and a pole down by the pond.

The pond that I used to use was this little 2-3 acre pond right near a road and I cannot tell you how many times people have laughed and honked at me driving by. Two guys in a truck once drove by hauling a Bass boat and I heard them laughing, but little do they know what those Bullheads are actually being used for.

Only in my case, they are being used for nothing since I am on a massive skunk streak of a year.
