Bad Router?

Recommended Posts

For some reason the past week, I'm having to power cycle my D-Link wireless router quite often.

The connection on my laptop still shows a good status, but I will not be able to load a page. I try to manually disconnect and then reconnnect, and also restarting my browser, but the only thing that will restore my connection is to manually power cycle the router.

Do they just go bad?

Our D-Link did. Kind of the same problem. The older it got, the more it hung up and had to be power cycled. I finally put it out of its misery two years ago.

I know that in cases where there is bad weather happening it can really flake things out internet/IPS where you need to restart things a bit. Had to do it twice with our commercial routers at work yesterday.

That is a symptom of them going bad. Had that happen with a pair of Linksys routers. We moved up a tier in price point (just avoided the cheapest), and this new D-Link has been flawless for since we got it a couple years ago.

Bought a new cisco/linksys N router and it made a big difference. Guess the old one was was getting tired.

I thought my first speed test was a fluke due to a local server, so I picked one way out in Maine.

Wow!
