Flat Rap Report Card

I've caught a few fish (average size bass and pike) on the smaller flat rap. It does run quite a bit shallower than I thought it would (~1 foot with 14 lb braid). Not the biggest problem, runs over the top of the weeds well and cuts through pencil reeds/bullrushes pretty well. It does look pretty good in the water. Color selection is poor IMO though.

I have been dragging flat raps around on the handline (heavy duty 3 way) since my first trip out this Spring. First fish in the boat this year was a 19" Walleye on perch colored flat rap. No noticible difference in numbers or size of fish caught between flat raps, original floaters, and husky jerk-baits. When I'm running the handline I like to run 2 different baits at the same time so normally I have been running a flat rap on one line and an original floater or husky jerk on the other.

Overall in the conditions I fish (St Croix and pool 3) the flat raps have not produced any more fish that the other lure choices. Right now for Walleye/Sauger color seems to be more important than shape or lure action.

I like having more options but more options costs more money.

Have not used x-raps much this year so i left the out of the comparison.

I mostly bought them more because al lindner told me I needed them (which is why I have about 90% of the rapala's I have). For some reason though I couldn't shake the idea out of my head that these particular rapala's would be good for lake trout.

tried one out today for the first time. great casting lure for shallow water. landed a few pike out of 2'-4' on the blue/chrome #8. looks like it will be a winner. i like that it only ran about 1'-2' below the surface, great for casting shorelines and over weed beds.
