Very beautiful. The black bg is quite effective in simplifying the composition and adding dramatic contrast. Did you photoshop in some of the black bg or is it untouched? Most impressive if it is fairly untouched.

ShawnZ, In the spirt of full discloser, it was more then touched, it was beaten into submission. There are a lot of ways to get the black background. Sometimes you get lucky and conditions are right and you get the affect without manipulation. I usually carry a piece of black velvet when I'm shooting flowers which makes getting the black background easy. Unforunately the day I ran across this Trillium I had left it at home.

This shot was photoshopped using the lasso tool (a Wacom tablet makes this process a lot quicker). I isolated the flower then inverted the selection and fill it with black.
