Baitcast setup

I currently have only one good rod I use its a berkley rod with a pflueger president reel with 20# power pro braided line. I want to have something that I can get some distance for casting spinner baits, cranks etc. I am thinking of giving a baitcast rod/reel a try. I have heard that the abu's are good and the Scheels outfitter rods are good too. They have lifetime warranty. What is a good length. Should I put just regular mono on it 8#? I have a bonus coming from work so I was thinking around $250 total. Or maybe I should just get another spinning setup? What do you guys think?

For spinnerbaits and cranks I would definately recomend a baitcasting set up. I would go with a 7' Medium or Medium Heavy rod with a Moderate or Moderate Fast Action. I like mono for those applications also anywere from 12-15lb test.

Yeah i would say 6'6 MH to 7' MH with a nice baitcaster. Abu Garcia Revo is a great reel. Look into some of the St. Croix Mojo Rods--also great warranty. Abu Garcia Revo plus St. Croix mojo should run ya right around $220-$250

It depends on if you want to learn how to use a baitcaster. I would stay away from abu when first starting out since they have magnetic braking and a little harder to dial in. I find that the centrifugal brake reels are much easier to learn on. If $250 is your price range I would suggest a Shimano Compre 7 foot medium heavy fast action paired with a shimano citica. You will be able to use this rod for just about everything. You can get into this setup for around 200-220. As far as line goes I would start out with mono until you get used to using the baitcaster. 12-15 lb. test is where I would start.

If you're looking for distance you definitely need a 7 foot rod. I have used both the citica and revo sx and I prefer the revo. I feel you can get more distance with it and it is much smaller and easier to palm.

get a good condition used shimano curado cu-200 (old greenie) great to learn with, and casts a mile (find one for $80) check out bassboatcentral they are always on there.

Throw it on a compre, crucial, or avid. You wont be disappointed...

The Revo S I think is the only one with centrifugal braking I think. The citica is actually smaller then the revo, I got both.

I think the one I have used was a older model of the Citica.

The Skeet Reese Revo also has Centrifugal breaking...thats what I use for spinnerbaits.

Bassnbucks...I would get a Curado E5 off E bay for $140 or so. They are great reels for the money. The E5 has a nice slower gear ratio perfect for cranks and spinnerbaits. For a rod definitely get a 7' M or MH. M if using mostly 1/2 ounce and under, MH if using baits bigger than 1/2. If mainly used for spinners get the fast action...if using cranks more then get the moderate action.

With a $250 budget you can get a pretty nice setup.
