WTD bass lures

I've never used Walk-the-dogs for bass. I know, crazy, right?

I've given them a shot for musky and pike, and have been fairly successful, so I figure this year I want to give it a shot for bass.

What size do you guys use here in MN? I know out in Cali and other lunker bass fishing destinations that their WTD lures can compete size-wise with many musky WTDs.

For smaller WTDs, do you use any leader material? I have concerns about losing lures to pike, but also have concerns about leaders screwing up the motion.

Do you find them effective for smallies as well as largies?

Any opinion's on rapala's skitter walk? I might try one out, but a spook is surely going to make it into my tackle box.

My goal this year is to be come much less of a one-dimensional fisherman when I target different species. It's so easy to get set in our ways and only throw one hard bait and one soft bait and call it "diverse enough". This year I want to catch fish on ten different hard baits and ten different soft baits :P

You bass guys think to small, we boat many bass every year on muskie baits, biggest smallmouth I have ever seen followed a 10" Weagle, we get many on Hellhouns, Triple D's and Double Cowgirls. Oh yea can't leave out the Mag Bulldawgs, Jackpots, Pacemakers,Creepers, 3oz Spinnerbaits, Ernies, Burts, you get the idea......

You might catch a few bass on muskie baits with some really big ones thrown in but I feel you will consistently more fish with smaller bass baits. I never caught numbers of bass on muskie baits.

Bass tourney guys love you when you muskie fishing and throwing back bass every 10 casts when they can't get a nip. I catch alot of 12-16" bass every year on a 9" wades wobbler. Caught a 10" on a double 10 bucktail last year, not sure what that fish was thinking, bait was bigger than him. We also manage a few 7-10 pounders a year.

The musky guys must also love it when the bass guys hooks up with a musky on our little baits as you follow us around the weed lines.

Just like the panfish guys catch lots of bass on tiny jigs, bass guys catch lots of musky on bass tackle, too.

The predator fish are going to eat what ever they what, when ever they want.

And Iowa state record looks to be 10 lb 12oz, so all your 10lbers are close to the state record.

I really like a spook type bait around the spawn and just after it. Last week I caught 15 on it in about and hour and a half just fishing it right off the bank. There were spotted bass in this lake and they were coming 10-15ft off the bottom to hit it on deeper rock points, largemouth were coming in shallower water, it was a riot!
